I. PHÁT ÂM
1. Phân biệt cách phát âm đuôi "-ed" của ĐỘNG TỪ:
Lưu ý: - “-se” cuối từ đa số được phát âm là /z/ nhưng có đôi khi phát âm là /s/
VD: raise, refuse, cause,advise, use, please, realise, ... X decrease,release, promise,……….
- “-ce” cuối từ được phát âm là /s/ : practice, produce,….
- tính từ tận cùng bằng -ed được phát âm là /id/ gồm: beloved (yêu quý), learned (có học thức) , naked ….

II. TRỌNG ÂM
3. Một số quy tắc đánh dấu trọng âm của từ.
3.1. Nhấn vào âm tiết thứ 2 kể từ cuối
Những từ có hậu tố: -ic, -ial, -ian, -ion, -tion, -i/eous, a/ence, a/icy ... thì trọng âm rơi vào âm tiết ngay trước
VD: doméstic, , commércial, esséntial, electrícian, relígion, compánion, recognítion, indústrious
3.2. Nhấn vào âm tiết thứ 3 kể từ cuối
Những từ có hậu tố -cy, -ty, -phy, -gy, -ous, -ize, -fy, tude, -ate thì trọng âm đều rơi vào âm tiết thứ 3 kể từ sau
tới:
VD: geólogy, demócracy, humánity, solidárity, varíety, biógraphy, advénturous, , dángerous, apólogize,
3.3. Nhấn vào ngay hậu tố
Những từ có các hậu tố sau đây, trọng âm rơi vào ngay hậu tố ấy (hậu tố nhận trọng âm):
-ade VD: cha’rade; de’grade;
-ee VD: refe’ree; guaran’tee; employ’ee. (Ngoại lệ: co’mmittee)
-ese VD: Chi’nese ; Vietna’mese
-eer VD: ca’reer; engi’neer;
-oo VD: kanga’roo; sham’poo;
-oon VD: after’noon; car’toon;
-ette VD: servi’ette; kitche’nette. (ngoại lệ: ‘etiquette)
-esque VD: humou’resque ; pictu’resque
3.4. Từ có 2 âm tiết
a) Danh từ và tính từ: thường sẽ nhấn âm MỘT
VD: ’product, ’pretty, ’handsome, ’lazy, ’hollow
- Nhưng nếu âm tiết thứ hai là một âm tiết mạnh (có chứa một nguyên âm dài, nguyên âm đôi, hoặc một nguyên
âm với một hay nhiều phụ âm) thì nhấn âm 2
VD: ma’chine, a’lone
b) Động từ thường sẽ nhấn âm HAI
VD: be’lieve, a’rrive, a’ttract
- Nếu âm tiết thứ hai có chứa một nguyên âm ngắn thì trọng âm thường nằm ở âm tiết thứ nhất:
VD: ’enter, ’envy,
3.5. Từ có 3 âm tiết trở lên
- Từ ba âm tiết thường có trọng âm ở âm tiết thứ nhất: nếu không có những hậu tố đặc biệt được nêu ở các quy tắc

VD: ’cinema, ’calendar, ’literature, ’necessary
3.6 Trọng âm trong từ ghép
- Danh từ ghép, trọng âm thường rơi vào âm tiết thứ nhất
VD: gréenhouse, clássroom, cárpark
- Tính từ ghép, trọng âm thường rơi vào âm tiết thứ hai
VD: oldfáshioned, goodlóoking, badtémpered
- Động từ ghép, trọng âm thường rơi vào âm tiết thứ hai
VD: be’come, under’stand.
3.8 Nhấn vào từ gốc
Trọng âm phần lớn rơi vào từ gốc (root) không rơi vào tiền tố (prefixes): un-, be-, im-, in-, re-, ... hay hậu tố
(suffixes): -able, -er, -al, -en, -ful, -less, -ing, -ish, -ment, -ous,...
VD:, unháppy, upstáirs, besíde, overwéight, rewríte, foretéll, réason → unréasonable, pórtable, spéaker,
impróve/impróvement, hármful, bróaden, dánger/dángerous
Ngoại lệ: úpbringing, úpward, fórehead, fóreword
Lưu ý chung: Còn rất nhiều từ ngoại lệ (không thuộc 8 quy tắc nêu trên)

- Döï ñònh trong töông lai. - Hµnh ®éng ®ang x¶y ra (ë qu¸ khø) th× cã mét
hµnh ®éng kh¸c xen vµo (when/while)
- Hai hµnh ®éng x¶y ra song song cïng mét lóc ë qu¸
khø. (while)

I. Mạo từ không xác định a hoặc an
1. Vị trí
Chúng ta dùng an trước 1 nguyên âm theo cách đọc và a trước 1 phụ âm theo cách đọc.

Mạo từ a/an có nghĩa là “một”, được dùng trước 1 N đếm được số ít. A/an không được dùng trước N không đếm được.

Mạo từ the không có nghĩa, được dùng trước N cả đếm được lẫn không đếm được, cả số ít lẫn số nhiều.
Chúng ta dùng the khi chúng ta đề cập đến thứ gì đó/ ai đó cụ thể, xác định. Điều này gồm:
