THE 1979 REFORM

1 This aimed for more practical and learner-centered

education which was seen at the time as necessary for
post-war social and economic recovery. The Resolution
stated that a key principle of the reform was an
accompaniment between learning and doing. There was
criticism of the chalk-and-talk teaching approach and
the suggestion that although knowledge acquisition is
important, actively participating in real-world activities
to apply knowledge is essential for the holistic
development of the students (Political Bureau
Citation1979).

prioritized curriculum revisions, technology integration,

the Vietnamese government to improve the education
