I
John, on stage before an audience, delivering a speech: To my beloved
fellow alumni, good morning! Homecomings and reunions always make me
relive all our shared experiences: the times when we laughed, cried,
and had fun together. Seeing you all smile and laugh makes me feel
like nothing much has changed in the past 20 years. Time might have
passed but the memories we shared remained.
Camera switches to Rey.
II
—Flashback—
John enters the classroom and sees Rey sitting and reading a book, not
wearing his uniform. John approaches him.
John, smiling: Rey, dili pa man ron wash day. Nganong wala na man ka
mag-uniform?
Pwede kaayo to nako ihatag.
Sigurado ko maigo gyud to nimo.
Rey, jokingly saying: Dili gyud ra ba ko mubalibad og grasya. Bitaw,
salamat kaayo, John.
III
—Speech—
John*on stage*: We may come from different places, and we may come
from different families, but it is our strong sense of brotherhood
that brought us together and that strengthened our bonds.
IV
—Flashback—
Camera facing the sun to emphasize the scorching weather.
John and Rey walking along a path. Both are sweating and were wiping
their sweat with the back of their palms. Along the way, John saw a
coconut tree.
John, pointing towards the coconut tree: Buko, o, sakto kaayo
pampawala sa kauhaw.
Rey, kinda shocked: Kinsa man natong duha kamao musaka? Musaka ka?
John, smiling: Dili lage ba.
Rey, learned in climbing a coconut ‘tree,’ enthusiastic: Atong
suwayan.
Rey, then, proceeds to take off his bag, uniform, and his shoes, then
starts climbing.
John, worried: Ayaw paluma-luma. Mahulog pa lang ka.
John, failing to stop Rey, makes a worried face.
Fade in. Two coconuts fell on the ground, and Rey jumped down from the
tree.
Both rolled their papers and put the papers in two separate bottles
which they found near the area. Rey gives John his bottle. Rey begins
to dig a pit where the two bottles fit.
John, holding the bottles: Nindota kaayo, no, kung ato ning makab-ot o
John: 20 years?
Rey: 20 years! Ayaw kalimot.
John: Dili gyud. Basin diay og mubalik ta diri 20 years from now kay
mutambong ta og homecoming or unsa nga panagtapok.
John holds both bottles in his left and shakes Rey’s hands with his
right. John, then, places the bottles into the pit and covers it.
VII
Fade in.
John finishes his speech, teary-eyed, and is applauded by the people.
As he goes down the stage and goes to his seat, people near his seat
shake hands with him to congratulate him.
John sees Ray with other people. Ray, while eating, happily talks with
other people. John approaches Rey. They made a fist bump then a slide
in the forearm and a gentle tap at the back.
John, smiling: Rey? Kumusta man? Wala gyud tay kita-kita pila na
katuig.
Rey: Oy, John, father (slightly bows his head). Maayo kaayo ang dagan
sa kinabuhi bisan tuod anaa ang kalisod. Ikaw, kumusta man? Mura man
lage’g wala kaayoy nausab sa imo.
John: Mao pud lage. Nakasinati pud og kalisod apan wala gyud ko kawad-
I sa paglaum.
Rey: Maayo.
John: Asa adto man?
Rey gets a wine bottle from his table that looks similar to the bottle
they buried 20 years ago.
Rey, smiling: Hapit ka makalimot?
John: 20 years na ba diay to? Kadali ra diay gyud sa panahon, no?

—By the Acacia—
John and Rey are seen walking towards the spot (by the acacia tree)
while talking about their life. (Only visual, no audio).
John: Nakahinumdom pa ka asa to nato gilubong?
Rey: Naa ra to ari. Mura man pud og wala kaayoy kabag-ohan sa palibot.
John: Sure ka ha?
Rey, points to a mark he placed 20 years ago: Nagpabilin pa gani ang
timailhan.
Then Rey picks up the mark which is a weird looking stone.
Rey: Diara.
Rey digs the spot and later, sees a part of the bottle. Rey used his
bare hands to pick up the bottles.
Rey, slowly nodding, once: Okay.
Rey, having never forgotten which bottle was his, gives John his
bottle. Rey now has John’s bottle, and his in John.
