SWIMMING

Lesson 1

(a) Jump into the water from the edge of the pool

Demonstrate a compact jump

(b) Jump into the water from the diving block

(c) Swim width or length of pool ; 25 metres of freestyle

backstroke, breastroke, sidestroke and lifesaving

backstroke

(d) Float on back for 2-3 minutes

(e) Tread water for 2 minutes

(f) Stay afloat using one aid between 2-3 people

(g) Demonstrate rotation of tucked body, keeping face above surface of the water

(h) Dressed in shorts and T-shirt, tread water, partner throws flotation aid and instructs to kick to
edge

(i) Swim for 50 metres using a recognised stroke;

25 metres above water arm recovery

25 metres underwater arm recovery

(j) Remove clothes while treading water

(k) Sculling race ; Divide group into teams of 4 and have a relay doing back float and sculling (hands
only)

Lesson 2

(a) Jump into the water at the deep end and touch the bottom of the pool

(b) Demonstrate a safety jump ; tread water for 2 mins. and then swim slowly for 3 mins. using three
survival strokes

(keeping arms below the surface) changing every minute to a different stroke

(c) Dressed in shorts and T-shirt ; demonstrate a surface dive, swim underwater, search for and
recover an object

from water equal to the swimmer's height

(d) Swim continuously for 75 metres ; 50m above water stroke and 25m below water stroke

(e) Remove clothes

(f) Demonstrate horizontal arm sculling to rotate upright body around the vertical axis

(g) Demonstrate sculling around the horizontal axis


(h) Float for 1 min. using a flotation aid

(i) Using a stick, pull a partner to safety

(j) Water polo (Booms, precision)

Lesson 3

(a) Dive into water with clothes on

(b) Tread water for 2 minutes

(c) Recover object from the bottom of the pool ; bring to edge holding on chest and moving on back

(d) Practise survival sculling for 3 minutes

(e) Float for 2 minutes

(f) Swim continuously for 100metres ; 50m above water arm recovery, 50m underwater arm recovery

(g) Take clothes off in the pool

(h) Demonstrate a compact jump

(i) Demonstrate horizontal arm sculling

(j) Demonstrate rotation of tucked body

(k) Water polo style relay where ball must be moved while swimming (Booms, precision)

Test level (Blooms- naturalization)
