Visualize the scenario:
If I stood at the center of the classroom and ask 10 of you to hold hands
around me maintaining an even distance between all of you.

Question:
What do you think is the shape that we formed?

A circle is a closed plane figure made up of a set of points that are

equidistant or same distance from a fixed point which is called as the center.
Explain Aside from center. Parts of the circle include center, radius, diameter, and
chord.

There are other parts of the circle. The Basic Terms Related to Circle are:
 Center- A point equidistant to any point on the circle.
 Radius- A segment drawn from the center to any point on the circle.
 Chord- A segment joining two points on the circle.
 Diameter- A chord passing through the center of the circle.
 Arc- A portion of the circumference of a circle.
 Semi-circle- It is half of the circumference of the circle. It measures
exactly at 180 degrees.
 Circumference- The distance around the circle.

Pi (π) is the ratio between the circumference and the diameter of the circle.
Its value is 22/7 or 3.14.

Elaborate Part I:
Let the students construct a circle on their own with the aid of compass.
Steps in constructing a circle:
1. Draw a line representing the radius of the circle with the aid of a ruler
on a piece of paper.
2. Attach the pencil to the drawing compass.
3. Point the needle of the compass on one end of the line and the pencil
led to the other point. The point where the needle points to
represents the center of the circle.
4. Rotate the compass without moving the needle until it reaches a full
turn.
Part II:
Draw a circle with the following radii.
a. 5cm b.1 inch

Evaluate Solve the problem.

Meriam has a circular cake with diameter 16 inches. The slice that
Meriam made is straight and has a length of 13 inches. Did Meriam cut
along a radius, diameter, or chord of the circle? Illustrate to prove your
answer.
