• Definition of terms:
o Function: __________________________________________________
o Relation: __________________________________________________
o Domain: ___________________________________________________
o Co-domain: ________________________________________________
o Range: ____________________________________________________
• What is the domain of the given? {(-3,2),(-1,5),(0,4),(2,4)}
• Identify whether the given relation is a function or not then determine what type of relation (one-
to-one, many-to-one, one-to-many) the given has. Example 1 is done for you.
1. {(1,2),(2,3),(3,4),(4,1)} function – one-to-one
2. {(-3,9),(-2,4),(2,4),(3,9)}
3. {(1,1),(1,2),(2,3),(3,4)}
4. {(1,6),(2,6),(3,6),(4,6)}
• Represent the above given through mapping and table of values. Example 1 is done for you.
1.
• Type of function and their graphs
Listed below are examples of every function, in the blank space provide your own given.
a) Constant Function: 𝑓(𝑥) = 2 ___________________________________________________
b) Linear Function: 𝑘(𝑥) = 𝑥 + 2 __________________________________________________
c) Quadratic Function: ℎ(𝑥) = 𝑥 2 + 2 ______________________________________________
d) Polynomial Function: 𝑔(𝑥) = 𝑥 4 − 2𝑥 3 + 𝑥 − 2 ___________________________________
e) Floor Function: 𝑚(𝑥) = ⌊𝑥 + 1⌋ _________________________________________________
f) Ceiling Function: 𝑟(𝑥) = ⌈𝑥 − 2⌉ ________________________________________________
g) Square root Function: 𝑡(𝑥) = √𝑥 2 + 2 ____________________________________________
h) Absolute value Function: 𝑤(𝑥) = |2𝑥| ___________________________________________
Challenge yourself!
𝑥 2 + 2, 𝑖𝑓 𝑥 < 0 1
If 𝑔(𝑥 ) = { , find 𝑔(𝑥 ) when, 𝑥 = −1, 𝑥 = 0, 𝑥 = 2 and 𝑥 = 2.
5𝑥 + 2 𝑖𝑓 𝑥 ≥ 0
• Operation on Function: Perform the indicated operations.
Challenge yourself!
Try to create your own problem using the operation on functions then solve completely.
