Slide 1.

hey everyone today ill he talking about James Watson . and how he alongside his partner
Francis Crick, made the discovery of the structure of DNA, and how he left a long lasting impact
on science.

slide 2
- James Watson is an American molecular biologist, geneticist , and zoologist.
● He was born on April 6th 1928 in Chicago , and he is 95 years old today.
● His parents are Jean Mitchell, and James D. Watson.
● He studied at the University of Chicago.

What is the genetics field?

The genetics field is the study of how genes are passed down from one generation to another.

slide 4

- James watson discovered and researched the double helix structure of the dna.

He and the scientist francis Crick discovered the structure of the DNA. They found out that DNA
carries a cell’s genes.

- he researched the 4 bases that dna is made from

Him and crick stated that DNA is made of two strands twisted around each other to form a helix
that looks like a twisted ladder, and that each step of the helix contains nucleotides , which has
a base, a sugar, and a phosphate group. They said that there are 4 possible bases, Adenine,
Guanine, cytosine, and thymine.

- Their initial research did not produce results.

But, they worked together in secret anyway, and they made a model that proved their
discoveries were correct.

This is the first model that watson and crick made, which is now showcased in the science
museum in london : (show model)

slide 6

● he was a biology professor at Harvard university until 1976.

● he was the associated director of the human genome project for the first 2 years of the
project
● he published the best selling book “the double helix”

slide 7
watson helped us know everything about or genetic codes, and how our traits are passed down
from generations. He helped us understand what made us us. and that’s why his nickname is
the father of dna.
