YOU CAN HEAR THE WHISTLE BLOW A HUNDRED MILES

Two weeks ago, the Jadavpur University campus witnessed a horrendous act of violence that took
the life of an undergraduate student.

Right away, students left their classes in masses, and mobilised in the lanes of the campus to
demonstrate a rally against the abominable act of ragging that he went through before his death.

As the movement progressed to convey our demands, we witnessed several more acts of violence,
and humiliation that psychologically affected us. These events deviated the movement to discussions
about several other issues that muddled the primary aims of the movement.

Two weeks later, the movement rages on to find answers to questions that have been addressed,
concerns that were put under the rug, and to build our collective conscience about the safety and
dignity of every student.

Every student in Jadavpur holds a universal aversion to Ragging, and wants to voice against whoever
practises it.

Here, we, the students of Film Studies have planned to hold screenings of movies, and
documentaries at the ongoing sit-in demonstration at Aurobindo Bhavan.

Our sole purpose is to sensitise the campus regarding the movement. We want to add fuel to the fire
by screening texts that raise awareness about ragging, and the necessity of protesting against it. This
way, we also aim to look at our movement by placing it in different contexts, and conversations
about the same issue.

We wish to contribute this way, and hopefully gather more momentum to the movement.

We hope to see everyone at the screening, and thus participate in the movement. There's strength
in numbers. There's strength in us.

Let our voices unite, and our dreams be seen

Let the history of resistance be reflected on the screen!

AUROBINDO BHAVAN FILM SCREENING 24th August onwards, 6 PM.

PUBLISHED AND DISTRIBUTED BY STUDENTS OF FILM STUDIES, JADAVPUR UNIVERSITY
