Network topology is the arrangement of
the elements of a communication
network. Network topology can be used
to define or describe the arrangement
of various types of telecommunication
networks, including command and
control radio networks, industrial
fieldbusses and computer networks
THERE ARE MAINLY 6 TYPES OF
NETWORK TOPOLOGIES

• BUS TOPOLOGY
• STAR TOPLOGY
• MESH TOPOLOGY
• TREE TOPOLOGY
• RING TOPOLOGY
• HYBRID TOPOLOGY
BUS TOPOLOGY

A bus network is a network topology in

which nodes are directly connected to a
common half-duplex link called a bus. A
host on a bus network is called a station. In
a bus network, every station will receive all
network traffic, and the traffic generated
by each station has equal transmission
priority.

A bus topology is a topology for a Local Area

Network (LAN) in which all the nodes are
connected to a single cable. The cable to
which the nodes connect is called a
"backbone". If the backbone is broken, the
entire segment fails.
STAR TOPOLOGY

A star topology is a topology

for a Local Area Network
(LAN) in which all nodes are
individually connected to a
central connection point, like
a hub or a switch. A star takes
more cable than e.g. a bus, but
the benefit is that if a cable
fails, only one node will be
brought down.
Mesh Topology

A mesh network is a local

network topology in which the
infrastructure nodes connect
directly, dynamically and non-
hierarchically to as many other
nodes as possible and
cooperate with one another to
efficiently route data from/to
clients
This topology setup allows for
most transmissions to be
distributed even if one of the connections
goes down. It is a topology
commonly used for wireless networks.
TREE TOPOLOGY

A tree network, or star-bus

network, is a hybrid network
topology in which star networks
are interconnected via bus
networks. Tree networks are
hierarchical, and each node can
have an arbitrary number of child
nodes
For example, tree topologies
are frequently used to
organize the computers in a
corporate network, or the
information in a database.
RING TOPOLOGY

A ring network is a network topology in which each

node connects to exactly two other nodes, forming
a single continuous pathway for signals through
each node – a ring. Data travels from node to
node, with each node along the way handling every
packet.

A ring topology is a network configuration where

device connections create a circular data path.
Each networked device is connected to two
others, like points on a circle. Together, devices in
a ring topology are referred to as a ring network
HYBRID TOPOLOGY

A hybrid topology is a type of network

topology that uses two or more differing
network topologies. These topologies can
include a mix of bus topology, mesh
topology, ring topology, star topology, and
tree topology.

A tree network, or star-bus network, is

a hybrid network topology in which
star networks are interconnected via
bus networks. Tree networks are
hierarchical, and each node can have an
arbitrary number of child nodes
