Aaron T.

Beck
Aaron T. Beck is a renowned American psychiatrist and psychotherapist,
born in 1921. He is best known for developing cognitive therapy, now widely
known as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). Beck's work revolutionized the
field by emphasizing the role of thoughts in shaping emotions and behavior.
CBT has become a cornerstone in the treatment of various mental health
disorders, including depression and anxiety.
The cognitive triad
It's a concept associated with cognitive therapy, particularly developed by
Aaron T. Beck. It refers to three negative thought patterns that individuals
with depression often experience about themselves, their future, and the
world. The three components of the cognitive triad are:
1. Negative view of self:
A person may have a distorted and pessimistic perception of themselves,
feeling unworthy or inadequate.
2. Negative view of the world:
This involves seeing the world as overwhelmingly difficult, hostile, or unfair.
3. Negative view of the future:
Individuals with depression may anticipate future events in a pessimistic
and hopeless manner, expecting things to go wrong.

Addressing and challenging these negative thought patterns is a central

focus of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to help individuals with
depression reframe their perspectives and improve their mental well-being.
