First, we want to thank all the participants and the core

committee members for being a part of today’s event.

I'm Eeshani and I'm Ron, and we are core members of FEPSI. We are a national level
student-based NGO with a team of over 100 members in VIT, Vellore, and we work on
projects for the progress and betterment of society. And today, we welcome you to “Tug of
Words” - where our participants will battle out with their optimum reasoning on the topic “
Will the new IT rules imply misuse of power and diminish the freedom of speech and
expression?”

We at SOCH, take up issues of social importance and organize events that assess the
apprehension and sensitivity towards these subjects. In today’s event, you have the chance to
voice your opinion about this much debated hot topic and validify your stand.

With this in mind, let’s begin with our event

“Tug of Words”.

Round 1
Gear up, everyone! Here are the rules for Round 1:

1. The initial round will have 3 teams, one each from Soch, GLL and Ullas.
2. Each team will compete twice in this first round, i.e. Soch vs GLL, GLL vs Ullas and
Ullas vs Soch, taking turns for and against the motion, i.e. each team will have to
speak for and against the motion.
3. Each team will be allotted a maximum time of 4 mins to elucidate their argument for
or against the motion. A notification will be given 1 minute before the time period is
complete.
4. The best two teams from the first round will compete in the next round.

We hope these rules are clear to everyone. If any of the participants have any doubts, please
clear them out right now.

Let’s begin the first round of today’s competition.

First up, we have team Soch vs team GLL . For this round of conversation, Soch is entitled
to speak for the motion and GLL is entitled to speak against the motion.
We will notify you through a buzzer 1 min before your time is over. All the best everyone!

Thank you, guys! We all agree that each team had great facts in their respective explanations.

Next, it’s team GLL vs team Ullas. For this round of argument, GLL is entitled to speak for
the motion and Ullas is entitled to speak against the motion. All the best, guys!

Well, that was put up wonderfully! I already feel the heat rising.

Now, we have team Ullas up against team Soch. This time, Ullas is entitled to speak for the
motion and Soch is entitled to speak against the motion. Best of luck, peeps!
Well, I must say Round 1 has ended up with a bang. All the teams have put extraordinary
efforts in justifying their stands. And with all the fingers crossed, all you have to do is wait
for the ticket to the next round.

We will see you soon. Till then, take a breath and pray (laughs). We request all our
participants to bear with us till the end of this event, no matter what the results are. The
results for the next round will be notified via WhatsApp shortly.

Round 2
Hi everyone! We are back for the second and final round of the debate, which is also the
Questionnaire Round! It’s time to criticise and destroy your opponent’s efforts, and what
could have been another better place to do this if not this debate.

So, without any delay, let’s get started.

Rules for Round 2:

1. The final round is the questionnaire round.

2. Each team can ask one or two questions to its opponent team, if anything
objectionable has been detected in their justifications, in the previous round. The
judges will also ask questions to each team.
3. The answer to these questions must not exceed 2 mins.
4. The team with the best answers and the best justifications will win the competition.

So, we begin with team A . Please put forward your questions for team B (A and B are
qualified teams).

We request the jury to ask questions to team B now.
