1. Procedure

6.1 Setting Out,

- Setting out of the 6m wide concrete panels position will be carried out by a Forman using spray
paint on top of the A6 bidim.
- As the lining and bidim panels will be done from an Easterly position to a Westerly position in the
dam basin the 6m wide panels will also be cast in the same direction. This will allow for higher
daily productions.

6.2 Installation of Formwork (Lip Channel)

- 100mm high Lip Channel will be used as shutter. The lip channel will have pre-fitted cross
bracing and base plate to allow the placement of a sandbag on top to secure the lip channel in
place.
- Formwork installation will be done by seconded skilled artisans together with local semi-skilled
and general labour.
- Prior to installation, the interior of formwork shall be cleaned thoroughly and oiled with a suitable
and approved stripping compound.
- Before placement of concrete, final inspection will be done in accordance with the IFC Drawings
and a Pre-concrete Inspection to be completed.
- All responsible parties to sign approvals before placing of concrete.

6.3 Concrete Placement and Finishing

- A Pre concrete checklist for concrete placement needs to be completed by the Foreman and
signed off prior to placement of concrete.
- Client to be notified of inspection by means and time frame agreed on.
Method Statement

- As the bidim and liner are both 9m wide a 3m gap will be left open to allow tie-in to the following
liner section and a 6m wide panel will be cast.
- The first panel will be cast against the 100mm HDPE Geo-Cell coming down from the batters
and extending 1m onto the basin past the toe line.
- While placing concrete, a roller will be used with poker vibrators to ensure a 100mm thickness is
achieved throughout.
- The concrete slump shall be such that it can be easily placed without segregation. If the
concrete is acceptable, it will continue to be discharged. Slump test shall be taken at every load
of concrete. The load shall be accepted if the concrete slump at the point of discharge is within
tolerance for the design mix ordered. A tolerance of ±40mm will be used to reject deliveries.
- Slump checks need to be recorded on the Slump Check Record Form
- The concrete is to be agitated continuously by rotation of the mixer drum during transport to the
Site and while waiting for discharge. Concrete shall be discharged from the delivery vehicle
within 1 hour after arriving on site.
- Concrete shall be deposited as quickly as practicable in its final position to avoid segregation
and cold joints.
- Concrete that has partially hardened or been contaminated with foreign materials shall not be
deposited in the structure.
- Concrete vibrators will be used to ensure an even flow of concrete to all edges. Vibrators shall
be inserted and used to move concrete to the edges. Plastic shovels are to be used to move
concrete to the edges to avoid damage to the liner.
- Concrete Placement will be achieved by use of direct placement from concrete truck and use of
a small conveyor or pump if required.
- A total of 6 test cubes will be taken for every 50m3 of concrete cast.
- All concrete finishes shall be as per design (wood float, steel float power float etc.).

6.4 Curing of Concrete and saw cut on joints.

- After concrete placement a concrete curing compound will be applied as per the manufacturer
data sheet.
- Within 12 hours of concrete being placed, crack induced saw cut joints will be done in a 3m-by-
3m grid to ensure proper shrinkage cracks are formed. The cutting will be done with a level
adjustable diamond blade saw cut machine at a thickness of 25mm.

6.5 Post Concrete

- Care to be taken when stripping of formwork, to not damage the concrete surface.
- A Post concrete inspectionneeds to be completed once all formwork has been stripped. Any
deviations need to be recorded.
