LANTERN RATIONALE
In the Philippines, the Christmas celebration starts on September 1–
December 25 to express the appreciation for God’s Birthday. The Philippines
is also known for having the longest Christmas in the world traditionally
decorating their houses full of colors from their colorful Christmas trees into
their beautiful house decoration.
THE PLAN MAKING
City College of Calamba made an opportunity to help the students to
showcase their creativity and skills by making their own Christmas Lanterns
with the materials that can be sees everywhere such as used plastics bottles,
bottle lids, straws, and so on. 1st year student of BSAIS section 1 plans to
make a Christmas Lantern connected into the happiness and bright side of
each people celebrating this event without changing the concept of star as a
common symbol of Christmas. With the objectives given by, BSAIS1 portray
the happiness and bright fellowship by using the materials of:

• BAMBOO STICK

Every Christmas, people having strong bonds with their relatives,


partners, peers, and pets. Bamboo reflects as a
strong start within the happiness that needed to
pursue. BSAIS1 students made it as a main
materials to make a strong pattern and shape it
as a star representing the common way of
Christmas but making it as a strongest
presentation. Fresh start, strong bonds, and stick
together. That’s what fellowship is.

• RECYCLED TRADITIONAL HANDWOVEN MAT AND CUT CD’S

Banig used as a based of the


parol covering the bamboo
sticks. Cuts CD’s used as
design covering the banig
under. Cd’s made an ombré
effect that makes it more
colorful and looks lively.
Students use it as the other
materials because they believe that color means happiness. They want to

deliver by making the parol as colorful as the cuts CD’s that every pieces of
happiness you’re bringing into your life, you’re fixing yourself.

• USED COLOR STRAWS

Used straws arranged properly with their proper color representing the
fellowship that is having similarities and difference within each other.
However, being difference is not a reason not to be on line, be with it and
make it more unique.

• RECYCLED PLASTICS

White means peace, Students of BSAIS1 provide the thought that if


happiness filled your life, you can be as peaceful as the cloud in the sky. It
surrounds the parol because happiness brings peace and everyone deserve
peace.

• LAMPARA MADE OF WOOD

Lampara is traditional source of light way back the times that electronics are
still not known by everyone. It use to light
houses, ways and places especially when
celebrating. Lampara is not only on that
purposes, student sees it as a witness of
happy memories of a loving families
celebrating Christmas without any
sources of electricity due to poverty.

• BELEN OR SABSABAN

Sabsaban is made of bamboo sticks that been


cut by smaller pieces and stick together. Also,
participants used cardboard box as a tray of
belen inside of the parol including the small
figurines that is given by the relatives of
BSAIS1 leader.

• USED LIGHTS

Students used lights to have a reflections within


those materials that is exposing the uniqueness of
the parol. Light also helps the parol to make it
bright in the dark just like a star. It became more
pleasant and pretty as well.

• TARPAULIN

Students include their course symbols to


symbolize their participation and cooperation
in this kind of activity. With these, they see
the activeness of everyone and the happiness
while making the parol.

We think that happiness is the light for fellowship because of our own
experience while making this activity. Through hard works, tiredness,
and highlights of colorful scenarios we’re bringing are all worth it.
Everything is worth it when the page of us had been colored by
everyone. “Ang pagsasamahan ang hakbang para sa kasiyahan”.
