School’s Current Situation

Established since 1966, Mangga Elementary School is located at Purok H
A
Maunlad, Barangay Saravia City of Koronadal consisting of 9800 sq. m land area. It is
situated along the national highway where motorcycles, tricycles, PUV and other
personally-owned vehicles are primary modes of transportation to and from the
school’s feeder puroks/sitios – Almotag, Crismus, Maunlad, Cabuling, El Gawel,
Ilang-Ilang, Tolosa, and Sampaguita.

Currently, quality basic education is delivered to 559 culturally-diverse learners


by 19 teachers consisting of one Master Teacher, eight Teacher III, three Teacher II,
six Teacher I, one COS Madrasah teacher, and one multi-grade teacher assigned in its
Extension School situated at Sitio Cabuling, Barangay Saravia having 28 enrollees
from Kindergarten – Grade 2.

36.15% or 202 out of the 559 total school population is comprised of IP and
Muslim learners, of which 48.58% or 84 learners needs intervention both in reading
and numeracy, signifying of the school’s need to have an established and sustainable
inclusive project and programs for said disadvantaged learners. This is to ensure that
these learners receive appropriate attention and equity initiatives.

After the Covid-19 pandemic and the school has resumed its face to face
classes, it has become the school’s main concern to improve its literacy and numeracy
rate as well the learners’ proficiency rate in all subject areas. Currently, only 67.53%
of the 559 learners achieved the nearly proficient /mastery level. In terms of reading,
54% of the total enrolment of Key Stage 2 are struggling readers while in Key Stage 1,
23.33% of the 229 learners belong to Full refresher /Moderate Refresher. In terms of
Numeracy, 67.14% of the 213 assessed learners in Key stage 1 needs intervention
while 40.71% of the learners in Key Stage 2 were identified as non-numerates. It is in
this pretext that the school is allocating more budget and conducting intensive
remediation programs to address whatever learning gaps. Sufficient training of
teachers thru SLAC sessions and provision of manipulative materials for teaching and
learning were also aligned to answer the identified root causes of problems.

At present the school has implemented projects and programs and initiatives to
ensure resiliency and well-being of all learners and teachers. Better results were
achieved thru the conduct of various activities. Thus, the school aims to sustain the

continued implementation of programs and project that promotes gender and

development, resiliency and well-being, improvement of mental and psychosocial A

aspect under the programs of GAD, DRRM, NDEP, BSP/GSP, sports and other
activities that equip learners and teachers with basic life skills to protect themselves
and their well-being.

To sum up, Mangga Elementary School stands as a beacon of education in,


serving a culturally diverse learner population. Despite facing challenges made worse
by the COVID-19 pandemic, including significant learning gaps in literacy and
numeracy among its 559 learners, the school remains steadfast in its commitment to
providing quality basic education. Through targeted remediation programs,
continuous teacher training, and the implementation of various projects promoting
resilience, well-being, and inclusivity, the school is actively working towards improving
academic outcomes and nurturing the holistic development of its learners and
teachers. With a focus on sustainability and equity, Mangga Elementary School is
poised to continue its journey towards educational excellence, ensuring that every
learner receives the support and opportunities they need to thrive.
