Of that, FedEx Express earned $42.7B, which was 47% of the total. FedEx Ground earned $33.5B,
which was 37% of the total. FedEx Freight earned $9.6B, which was 11% of the total. Other and
eliminations earned $4.0B, which was 4% of the total.

Federal Express was founded in 1971 in Little Rock, Arkansas by Mr. Smith.

Mr. Smith believed that the word "federal" indicated an interest in nationwide economic activity, and
hoped that the name would appeal to the Federal Reserve Bank, a potential customer.
April 17, 1973: Federal Express began operations in Memphis, Tennessee, with 389 team members. That
night, 14 aircraft delivered 186 packages to 25 U.S. cities.

Over the next 30 years, the company developed rapidly and gradually became a leader in the field of
postal, courier and other logistics services around the world.

Interesting Facts

There is a hidden element in the FedEx logo: between the lower part of the large "E" and the small "x",
the empty space forms an arrow. According to the idea of the logo designer Lindon Leader (Lindon
Leader), this arrow should evoke on a subconscious level an association between the company's name
and the high speed of delivery provided by FedEx .
At the beginning of its existence, the company experienced numerous difficulties. Once the company
had to pay fuel expenses in the amount of 24,000 dollars, and in its account at that moment there was
only five thousand. The owner of the company, Frederick Smith, withdrew all the money, went to Las
Vegas and won $27,000 in blackjack .
FedEx (Fedex) is the nickname of the famous Swiss tennis player Roger Federer.
