“EXPOSITORY PARAGRAPH: AN EXPLAINATION ON HOW CLOUDS AND TYPHOON FORM”

A cloud is basically a huge mass of tiny water droplets. Warm air expands as it rises

and cools. Because cold air cannot hold as much water vapor as warm air, some of the

water vapor may condense on very small particles to form water droplets. Clouds are

formed when water vapor rises into the atmosphere and then cools down. Microscopic

particles in the air like dust, pollens, and dirt act as cloud condensation nuclei, enabling

water molecules to stick together and stop moving around. The water molecules condense

around the nuclei to form clouds.

Typhoons, hurricanes, and tropical cyclones are all practically the same. The only

difference is the location where they are formed. Typhoons are formed over a large body of

water like the ocean. Typhoons are formed in the Northwest Pacific. Hurricanes are massive

storm systems that form over warm ocean waters and move toward land. Wikipedia (2019)

describes tropical cyclones as “a rapidly rotating storm system characterized by a low-

pressure center, a closed low-level atmospheric circulation, strong winds, and a spiral

arrangement of thunderstorms that produce heavy rain”. Tropical cyclones that form over

the Atlantic Ocean or Eastern Pacific Ocean are called hurricanes.
