Badge Creation

Badge Creation Reflection

f. Describe the overall experience in creating a badge.
Creating the badge was fairly easy to set up because I had an idea for the design.
Choosing a website that would distribute the badge was the most difficult part because I
had to create an account to explore what each site had to offer. Once I created the Badgr
account and began making the badge I realized that they had a small selection of
templates and ideas, I decided to create one on a different website and then import it into
Badgr. Overall, the experience was simple to achieve.

g. Describe how motivated you were in earning a badge.

Once I found the badge that I wanted to complete, I was motivated to finish the badge
because it was interesting to navigate through.

i. What factors impacted your motivation?

Finding which buttons to click to navigate through the task affected my motivation because
at one point, I didn’t know which button to click next. At this point, I thought about finding a
different badge to complete. Once I continued to search, I was able to complete the badge.

h. What were your key “take-aways” (what you have learned) from
the design and development of a digital badge?
My biggest takeaways from this was seeing how easy it was to create the badge so I know
that I could easily implement these into my classroom. I also learned some websites that
could easily store and distribute badges that people can collect.

● What are some application ideas for implementing digital

badges into your educational work context?
Some ideas for implementing badges would be when my students complete their
spelling tests. As they complete a certain amount of lessons I could distribute digital
badges to each student to collect. I could also allow my students to earn digital
badges when they read a certain number of books in a certain amount of time.

● What are the benefits and challenges associated with

implementing digital badges into your educational work
context?
The benefits of digital badges would be the convenience of distributing them as well
as storing them. Because they are digital my students could collect these badges and
take them with them and see them when they check their emails.

The challenge with digital badges is that the receiver of the badges with Badgr would
have to create an account in order to see and download their badges. Everyone may
not want to create an account which means that they will miss out on the badge
completely.
