Nathania Vanessa

under the glass globe

(2022)
for soprano, flute, SSAA choir, and piano

Ah, the rose; such a marvelous, beautiful

creature. Even her existence alone is truly loved and
cherished. She may perfume your whole planet and be
a perfect centerpiece for any kind of room. But one
must be careful when encountering her. Sometimes
her pride may charm, and her vanity bewitches.

Having such a fragile body stuck to the

ground, she relies on the mercy of nature to nourish
her. In this piece, we witness Rose’s efforts to
captivate the person that ‘has the kindness to think of
her needs’…

“Ah! I am scarcely awake. I beg that you

will excuse me. My petals are still all
disarranged . . . Am I not [beautiful]? And I
was born at the same moment as the sun..."
