Safety Instructions

1 Safety Instructions
The service manual contains basic instructions which must be complied with when
repair work is being carried out. Accordingly, the service engineer must not fail to read
this service manual before carrying out any repair work. It must be accessible at all
times at the place where the machine is being operated. Moreover not only the general
safety instructions listed in the section dealing with safety should be observed but also
special safety instructions included in the other main sections.

1.1 Marking of Instructions in the Service Manual

Those safety instructions included in this service manual which could lead to
endangerment of persons if ignored are marked with the general danger symbol

safety symbol as per DIN 4844 - W9,

where a warning is given concerning electrical power then

the safety symbol as per DIN 4844 - W8 is used.

In the case of safety instructions where non-compliance could endanger the machine
and its functions, the word

CAUTION

has been added.

Information affixed directly to the machine, such as

m markings showing direction of rotation

Vers. (10/02)

m markings for electrical and mechanical connections

must never be ignored and must always be kept completely legible.

Safety Instructions

1.2 Personnel Qualifications and Training

Personnel carrying out repair work on this equipment must possess the corresponding
qualifications for this work. The owner must lay down precise rules regarding the area of
responsibility, the duties and the supervision of the personnel.
If the personnel are not in possession of the necessary skills then they should be
trained and instructed in these. If necessary this can be done by the manufacturer or
supplier at the owner’s request. In addition the owner must ensure that his personnel
fully understand the contents of the service manual.

1.3 Danger when Safety Instructions are not Observed

Failure to observe the safety instructions may lead to both endangerment of persons as
also of the environment and the machine. If you do not comply with safety instructions
this can result in the loss of any claims for losses.

In particular non-observance of safety instructions may bring with it the following

potential hazards:

m failure of major machine functions

m failure of the methods prescribed for maintenance and repair
m endangerment of persons by electrical, mechanical and thermal effects.

1.4 Safety - Conscious Working

The safety instructions drawn up in this service manual, existing national regulations
concerning accident prevention, and any internal work, operational and safety
regulations of the owner must all be observed.

1.5 Safety Instructions for the Service Engineer

Potential endangerment from electrical power must be excluded (for details see for
example VDE regulations and those of the local power supply authority).

1.6 Safety Instructions for Repair Work

The owner must ensure that all repair work is carried out by authorised and qualified
technicians who have acquainted themselves in depth with the service manual.
Vers. (10/02)

Work on the equipment will only be carried out when it has been shut down.

Immediately after repair work is finished all safety and guard facilities must be replaced
or reactivated.

1.7 Unauthorised Modifications and Manufacture of

Spare Parts
Conversion or modification of the machine is only permitted with the approval of the
manufacturer. The use of original spare parts and accessories authorised by
the manufacturer is in the interests of safety. Use of other parts may cancel
manufacturers liability for the ensuing consequences.

General Description

4.1 Description of the Product

CAUTION
VISIO BETA VARIO requires a 230 V AC / 120 V AC power
supply. Parts of the unit therefore carry dangerous voltages!
Always unplug at the mains before carrying out any repair
work.
Observe the applicable accident prevention and VDE
regulations as well as the operating instructions for VISIO
BETA VARIO. To avoid injury and/or damage to the unit, it
is essential to follow the correct sequence of individual
repair steps.
Before putting VISIO BETA VARIO into operation, ensure
that the mains voltage and frequency stated on the rating
plate matches the available mains voltage and frequency.
An incorrect supply voltage may damage the unit.

VISIO BETA VARIO is a light unit for polymerising composite veneering material and
light-cured dental materials, e.g. light-cured tray materials, modelling resins for external
attachments or block-out resin. Three, and as from serial number 9110001 four,
programs with varying lengths of vacuum time are selectable and allow the
polymerisation process to be adjusted to suit the particular workpiece. The final vacuum
eliminates the oxygen inhibition layer usually associated with composites.
Plug the power cable into the lower socket on the back of the VISIO BETA VARIO unit
and connect to the mains. Switch the unit on.

Up to series 91B7060:
This only starts up the fan, but not the lamps or vacuum pump. When the power switch
is pressed, an audible signal is given and the number „88“ and the three fault indicators
appear briefly on the control panel. This procedure serves to check the unit’s control
functions. During the time when the three fault indicators are lit (4 seconds), do not
press the start button, as this will trigger a regeneration run for the vacuum pump
lasting 99 minutes, during which no polymerisation is possible.

As from serial number 9110001:

The display indicates the number of lamp activations (two digits: thousands/hundreds)
for 3 seconds and the two lamp fault indicators are lit. If the two red lamp fault
indicators flash and a triple audible signal is heard, 9999 activations have been reached
(99 on the display) and the lamps must be replaced. The unit nevertheless remains fully
functional. After the lamps have been replaced, the display shows „Pu“ for 3 seconds
and the red vacuum fault indicator is lit. If the start button is pressed during this time,
the regeneration run for the vacuum pump is triggered and lasts for 99 minutes. When
Vers. (10/02)

all the displays have gone out, the unit is ready for operation.

Refer to the VISIO BETA VARIO Operating Instructions for changing the two pairs of
lamps and for operating the unit.

General Description

4.2 Troubleshooting

CAUTION
Before putting VISIO BETA VARIO into operation, ensure
that the supply voltage indicated on the back of the unit
matches the available mains supply.

m External inspection for mechanical defects

Before troubleshooting, inspect the unit for mechanical defects.

Connect VISIO BETA VARIO to the power supply using the power cable supplied
and check that it functions correctly.

m Carry out troubleshooting in the sequence shown in the following troubleshooting

diagram.

CAUTION
When taking measurements with VISIO BETA VARIO open,
there are dangerous voltages.
