TEST 1
WRITING TASK 1
You recently received a letter from a friend asking for advice about whether to
go to college or to try to get a job. You think he/she should get a job.
Write a letter to this friend. In your letter
• say why he/she would not enjoy going to college
• explain why getting a job is a good idea for him/her
• suggest types of job that would be suitable for him/her
Dear Karmen,
Thank you for your letter. I am glad to hear that you are doing well, and I think it is great that
you have so many options for your future. You’re so lucky to have such a choice to make, but
let me tell you why I think you should get a job rather than go to college.
Since I have known you, you really hated school, and could never seem to sit still long enough
to get much value from a class. I just don’t see you getting much out of going to college and
I personally feel that it would be better for you to get a job, especially with your expertise in
system testing and your unique skills in writing code.
Nowadays, the demand for software engineers is very high and it's one of the highest-paid
jobs in the world. Therefore, the world is your oyster. On the plus side, by the time everyone
graduates from college and are fighting over the same jobs, you’ll be an experienced
professional with his own company.
Think about it and let me know. I’ll support you whatever you choose to do.

TEST 2
WRITING TASK 1
I stayed at your hotel from July 5th to July 6th for a business meeting. I believe I left the
relevant documents in the left drawer next to my bed in room 302. The documents are
placed inside a blue folder, labeled ‘Architects & Partners-Lola Jenkins’.
I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and, therefore, I am willing to pay
any expenses incurred in the search and retrieval process.
Yours sincerely,
Lola Jenkins

TEST 3
WRITING TASK 1
Your local council is considering closing a sports and leisure centre that it runs, in order to
save money.
Write a letter to the local council. In your letter
• give details of how you and your friends or family use the centre
• explain why the sports and leisure centre is important for the local community
• describe the possible effects on local people if the centre closes
The sports centre is very important to our community, as it is not only a major gathering
point but also a place for people to get fit. In these days of fast food and desk jobs, it is
more important than ever to have a place to get some extra exercise. Young people use it
as a place where they meet their friends to do sports together and, therefore, build
important social skills. Robbing the community of this would be an incredibly poor decision.
My friends and I are using the sports centre on a daily basis for various physical and social
activities. It is our only option, and I do hope you will not take it away from us. The entire
community depends on it and closing this sports centre would cause great damage to our
lives and our community.
Yours sincerely,
Lola Jenkins
