Assessing the suitability of a site, for waste disposal is extremely important to ensure that safe
and environmentally friendly landfill sites are chosen. This article highlights the roles that
engineering geology, geotechnical investigations and geophysical methods play in this
assessment. By utilizing
1
engineering geology techniques, such as photographs and satellite
imagery suitable areas for landfill placement can be identified. Geophysical investigations
complement methods by providing information about what lies beneath the surface and
identifying potential paths for leachate.
Geotechnical investigations also play a role as they provide data on soil and rock
characteristics, which
1
guide the design and stability of the landfill. To make site selections it is
crucial to take an approach that considers both community and environmental factors.
Additionally construction, management and restoration of the site are of importance, in
ensuring waste disposal practices and protecting the environment.
1
In order to enhance waste disposal practices and protect both the environment and local
communities several recommendations have been proposed. These include embracing
technologies, engaging with communities prioritizing sustainable land

reuse efforts investing
in research initiatives and fostering international collaboration. By implementing these
measures we can achieve waste disposal while maintaining our environmental responsibilities
and safeguarding community well being.
