Advantages of network braking

The network braking enables very efficient energy optimization. The crane operation requires
frequent starting and stopping. During each braking period as well as during lowering, the generated
energy must be either dissipated by resistor braking or, specially in process duty with high power
ratings, fed back to the power supply line. With the possibility to feed energy back to the power
supply line it is not necessary to waste energy in braking resistors.

The line current distortion of six pulse diode rectifier is seldom below 40%. Distortion levels
exceeding 100% are not unusual. By using the DynAReg and a well dimensioned LCL-line filter unit
the THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) can be typically decreased by a factor of 10.

The active input bridge offers the DynAReg possibility to raise the output voltage in relation to supply
voltage. With a 400V supply voltage for example, it is possible to create 500V output voltage to the
motor. Typically DC-bus voltage level is adjusted 10...25 % above that achieved with a diode rectifier.
Thanks to the closed loop DC voltage controller, the DynAReg is, within its current limits,
unsusceptiple for variations in the power supply line. This makes DynAReg extremely suitable for
locations with a weak power supply line.

As the DynAReg belongs to the DynA family with DynAC Vector and DynAHoist Vector, a great
number of common components minimize the spare part inventory and simplify the maintenance
procedures.

See circuit diagrams for following descriptions of operation.

Operation when power is connected to DynAReg

DynAReg start begins when the start switch S1 is connected on. The charging contactor operates if
the fault relay RO1 is not open. DC-bus charging starts immediately if the circuit braker F01 is
closed. Charging of DC-bus takes approximately 3 to 5 seconds. When DC-bus is charged to 65% of
the inverter nominal DC-voltage the charging relay RO2 operates and the auxiliary contactor K01
operates. Nominal DC-voltage is 675VDC in F-series and 931VDC in K-series. The auxliary contactor
K01 controls K1 (and K11/K12 in 500F-1250F and 400K-630K) to operate. One second after K01 has
operated the inverter fan starts to blow. If start has succeed DynAReg will stay in RUN-state. In
models 500F-1250F and 400K-630K all line contactors should operate 1s second after K01
operation. If both contactors do not operate DynAReg will be stopped. External stop commands will
be connected to the STOP-contact and emergency stop command is connected to the ES-contact.

2.2.2 DC-Voltage programming

The DC-Voltage can be programmed using DIA2, DIA3 and DIB5 digital inputs.

0= 0V (Not connected)
1= +24 V (Inverter board terminal 12)

DIB5 selects the nominal line voltage:

F-series K-series
0=400 V 0=575 V
1=500 V 1=690 V

The available DC-Voltage levels in F-series are:

DIA3 DIA2 DC- DIB5=0 DIB5=1

Voltage
0 0 110% 594 V 742 V
0 1 115% 621 V 776 V
1 0 120% 648 V 810 V
1 1 125% 675 V 844 V

The available DC-Voltage levels in K-series are:

DIA3 DIA2 DC- DIB5=0 DIB5=1

Voltage
0 0 110% 854 V 1025 V
0 1 115% 893 V 1071 V
1 0 120% 932 V 1118 V
1 1 125% 970 V 1164 V

The DC voltage must be programmed at least 10% higher compared to the nominal DC voltage oft
the 6-pulse diode bridge.

2.2.3 Switching frequency

The switching frequency can be selected with DIB4:

DIB4 F-series K-series

0 Fs = 3.6 kHz (default) Fs = 3.0 kHz (default)
1 Fs = 10 kHz (must not be used) Fs = 10 kHz (must not be used)

2.2.4 Fault reset

DIB6 can be used to quit a fault. If DIB6 is hardwired continuously to +24V, an automatic fault reset
mode is chosen (recommended).

Warning! High voltages inside DynAReg. Wait for at least five minutes after the supply
voltage has been switched off before service actions. Display in operating
condition (lights on) indicates a dangerous voltage on the DC-bus. When display
turns off, the DC-bus voltage is about 100V. Note also that there is a dangerous
voltage in the DC-bus always when the DC-bus is charged.

Do not connect any voltage to the DC-bus terminals of DynAReg (DC+. DC-). Otherwise, the inverter
will be damaged.

Note! Connect power (U, V, W) to the terminals of the filter unit, and DC-bus cables to the
DynAReg terminals DC+, DC-.

The overload protection of DynAReg protects the supply cables. The fuses of the supply provide
short circuit protection. Fuses in DC-bus provide DC-bus overload and short circuit protection.

Note! The connections of DynAReg must not be changed.

Note! Before making any isolation resistance measurements disconnect the DynAReg (U,
V, W) cables.
