I. OBJECTIVES:
A. Content Standard: The learners demonstrate understanding of the
different types of soil.
B. Performance Standard: The learners shall be able to recognize the different
type of soil.
C. Learning Competencies: Compare and contrast the characteristics of different
types of soil. S4ES-IVa-1
D. Objectives: 1. Identify the different types of soil based on
their physical characteristics.
2. Demonstrate/Discuss types of soil based on
their physical characteristics.
3. Appreciate the importance of soil in all living
organism.
II. CONTENT: Chapter 1 Lesson 57-Soil: Its types and Characteristics

B. Other Learning Resources/ Materials: Soil samples in clear bottles (prepared ahead of time),
3 pcs. plastic spoon, 3 pcs. short bond paper,
permanent markers, popsicle sticks, hand shove,
disposable gloves
(The teacher will ask the pupils and answer the given
questions in the form of draw lots.)

1. Motivation: (The teacher will present a picture of a man planting

covers most of the land part of the earth.
Clay
particles are packed together tightly. It is
sticky when wet and has the finest texture

it is mixture of sand and clay.
Sand
particles are coarse and loose.
D. EXPLORE: (The teacher will group the class into three (3) groups and
will do the group activity. After the given time frame, the
group will present their output in front of the class.)
Directions:
Observe the 3 different soil. Write on the onservation
sheet the physical characteristics of each soil.

agriculture.
Sandy Soil Particles are
coarse and loose.
It has large
particle size.
It is light brown
in colour.
It is poor in
nutrient.
