Introduction
Self-watering planters are a popular choice for urban gardening, offering a convenient
way to keep plants hydrated with minimal effort. These planters feature a reservoir that
replenishes soil moisture as plants draw up water through transpiration. They are designed to
reduce the labor involved in watering, making them ideal for urban settings where space and
time may be limited. Self-watering containers, also known as sub-irrigated planters (SIPs), come
in various sizes and can be used both indoors and outdoors [2]. They are not fully automated
systems but provide a self-sustaining watering solution that benefits plants by ensuring they
receive the water they need when they need it. Urban gardeners can benefit from the efficiency
and effectiveness of self-watering planters, which help conserve water, reduce the risk of over or
under-watering, and promote healthy plant growth in a sustainable manner [3].
The purpose of this activity is to establish a self-watering planters and document the
growth of the different flora species.
