The future of computational fluid dynamics

(CFD) simulation in the chemical process

industries
“If you do not understand the physics and/or chemistry behind a model or the equations being
solved do not use the software until you do.”
Certain countries produce engineers with much better knowledge of the fundamental
mathematics, physics and chemistry needed for simulation. I would single out France, Germany,
Italy, and Iran as the top four based on my sample. These PhD graduates go on to be either
excellent researchers or to lead very good groups in industry. Many of the big chemical
companies, such as Dow, Proctor and Gamble, Bayer, …. have outstanding simulation teams.
The adoption of Digital Twins and Augmented Reality in industry is also presenting CFD
engineers with a new outlet for their skills.
