Ballet
Ballet dance developed during the Italian Renaissance, before evolving in France and
Russia into a concert dance meant for public performance. This is in the form of a ballet,
in which the dance is choreographed with classical music.
● Genre
1. Vaganova method: This method emphasizes flexibility, strength, and endurance. It also
gives equal importance to arms and legs in performances.
2. Cecchetti method: The choreography focuses on all parts of the body working and
moving together to create beautiful lines through ballon (when ballerinas appear
lightweight as they jump), elevations, balance, and eight port de bras (arm movement).
Ballroom
Ballroom dance is a type of partner dance originating at the end of the sixteenth century
in France. Commonly used as shorthand for any partner dance
● Genre
American Smooth:
These dances are characterized by their graceful, flowing movements, and the freedom to
break away from the traditional closed dance hold, allowing for more expressive and
creative choreography..
International Ballroom:
These dance styles are characterized by their precise technique, formalized movement
patterns, and emphasis on maintaining a closed dance hold throughout the routine.
Dancers in this style often strive for elegance, sophistication, and seamless connection
with their partner.
Step forward with your left foot. Land softly on your heel and roll it to the ball of the
foot to give it a light, airy feel.
Step to the side with your right foot so that it is parallel to your left foot. Your feet
should be side by side, a bit more than shoulder-width apart.
Move your left foot together to your right foot. Your feet should be touching and side
by side to each other.
Step backward with your right foot. Keep your upper body straight and relaxed and
release the toe of your left foot to allow for an easier big step.
Step to the side with your left foot so it is parallel to your right foot. Again, your feet
should be side by side a bit wider than shoulder-width apart.
Move your right foot together to your left foot Your feet should be touching and side
