Good morning, my name is Jowyn.

I am the second argument presenter of Team B.

Today I would like to talk about euthanasia.

From my point of view, I strongly disagree with euthanasia.

I think that euthanasia should not be legalized in Malaysia.

It is because euthanasia will give too many powers to doctors.

In fact, many of us don’t realize that many doctors are taking shortcuts to earn more money.
Sometimes their own decision-making may be affected, consciously or unconsciously, by
their degree of tiredness or the way they feel about the patient. Case in point, as a
pathologist at Pontiac General Hospital, Jack Kevorkian killed the patients who were
suffering from extreme pain.

Kevorkian assisted in the deaths of 130 terminally ill people between 1990 and 1998. He was
charged with first-degree murder because he not only violated the law banning physician-
assisted suicide but also delivered a controlled substance without a medical license. A year
later he was convicted of second-degree murder and the unlawful delivery of a controlled
substance.

To be honest, doctors should not give up on their patients. It is the duty of doctors to treat
patients. Despite the medical science nowadays still being imperfect. Regardless, it is still
gradually improving. Some diseases can still be treated. There are expertises who are
working round the clock to create new treatments to treat patients. We need to discount the
possibility of the new treatment being developed in time to cure the illness that he or she is
facing.

In addition, it is not morally right to end the patients’ life as he or she has the right to live
longer. In voluntary euthanasia, we should also take in the consideration that the patient
may express their wish to die reluctantly. This may be due to guilt, despair and hopelessness
they felt. We not only should provide treatments, but mental support is also needed too.
When the patient equipped themselves with positive thinking, this will boost their
motivation, which will also indirectly help develop immunity against the disease and
improve their condition.

That’s all for me. Thanks.
