MACROECONOMICS
MACROECONOMICS
Every state today needs an effective economic policy in order to function well. It
consists, among other things, of fiscal policy and monetary policy.
Fiscal policy is about tax rates. It regulates Monetary policy, on the other hand, concerns interest rates.

Monetary base
i.e. the aggregate M0
The M0 aggregate - is otherwise known as M0 money, and also as the monetary base. Another term for it is high-
powered money. It is an aggregate including the value of cash money in circulation, as well as the value of the
commercial banks' current accounts kept with the central bank, through which they make their daily settlements with
the NATIONAL Bank of Poland, and additionally the value of the obligatory reserve accounts.
Money supply
The money supply is the sum of cash reserves in the hands of the public and demand deposits (current
accounts) We do not include cash reserves held in bank coffers in the money supply.
The money supply is the total value of money in circulation as a medium of exchange. It includes both cash
in circulation outside banks and bank deposits.
Amount of money signs issued by the central bank, From this it follows that loans given by banks
increase the stock of money in the economy.
The amount of credit granted by commercial banks.
The level of the money supply is determined by
Money supply = money stock + credits granted by banks the Federal Reserve System.
Required Reserves
Rezerwy obowiązkowe określają wielkość środków pieniężnych, które banki komercyjne muszą utrzymywać
w banku centralnym. Wartość ta stanowi określony procent, zależny od środków klientów,
zdeponowanych w danej instytucji. Rezerwy obowiązkowe są jednym z instrumentów banku centralnego.
Minimum reserves determine the amount of cash that commercial banks must hold at the central bank.
This value represents a certain percentage, depending on the customers' funds, deposited with the
institution. Minimum reserves are one of the instruments of the central bank.
Zwiększenie rezerwy obowiązkowej skutkuje ograniczeniem akcji kredytowej banków
handlowych, natomiast zmniejszenie jej powiększa ich akcję kredytową.
the money creation multiplier depends to a large extent on the reserve requirement ratio
reserves serve as collateral for deposits made by clients
the reserves indirectly bring income to the state and directly to the central banks, this is
understood as a fiscal function
under certain conditions, reserves stabilise the volume of interest rates in the economic system
through reserves there is an increase in the demand for money of the central bank, which is very
favourable in the moment of excess liquidity in the banking area
it is a tool in the hands of the central bank to control the money supply and influence the money
creation multiplier (thanks to which the b.c. can influence the level of inflation).
It is a method of controlling excess liquidity in the banking sector.
Monetary Policy TOOLS
Trzy główne narzędzia polityki pieniężnej to The main three tools of monetary policy are
operacje otwartego rynku open market operations
stopa rezerw obowiązkowych reserve requirement
operacje depozytowo-kredytowe the discount rate
Istotą operacji jest całkowity wzrost rezerw walutowych systemu bankowego. I ten fakt już
prowadzi do wzrostu całej podaży pieniądza w kraju.
Jeśli weźmiemy pod uwagę odwrotną operację otwartego rynku (sprzedaż rządowych papierów
wartościowych przez Bank Centralny), wówczas zaobserwujemy dokładnie odwrotny skutek:
spadek całkowitych rezerw pieniężnych banków, spadek całkowitej podaży pieniądza w kraju.
Open market operations are operations by a country's central bank to sell and buy government securities
in secondary markets. Such acquisitions are paid for by the Central Bank by increasing the reserve
accounts of the selling banks.
The essence of the operation is a total increase in the foreign exchange reserves of the banking
system. And this fact already leads to an increase in the total money supply of the country.
If we consider a reverse open market operation (sale of government securities by the Central
Bank), then we observe exactly the opposite effect: a decrease in the total monetary reserves of
banks, a decrease in the total money supply in the country.
2) Required reserves
The central bank imposes reserve requirements on banks. The reserve is intended to mitigate the impact of
current changes in the liquidity of the banking sector on interest rates in the interbank market. It also
serves to limit excess liquidity of banks. The obligatory reserve is a part, expressed in zlotys, of funds
accumulated on bank accounts and obtained from the sale of securities and other funds accepted by banks,
subject to return, with the exception of funds accepted from another domestic bank and also obtained from
abroad for at least 2 years. The obligatory reserve is kept on accounts with the NBP.
3) Discount rate
Discount rate, also called rediscount rate, or bank rate - interest rate charged by a central bank for
loans of reserve funds to commercial banks and other financial intermediaries.
The discount rate serves as an important indicator of the condition of credit in an economy. Because
raising or lowering the discount rate alters the banks’ borrowing costs and hence the rates that they
charge on loans, adjustment of the discount rate is considered a tool to combat recession or inflation.
MACROECONOMICS
Classical VS Keynesian
schools of thought
do definiowania ekonomii.
Classical economics and Keynesian economics are both schools of thought that are different in approaches
to defining economics.
The two schools of economic thought are related to each other in that they both respect
the need for a free market place to allocate scarce resources efficiently.
Classical economic theory is the belief that a self regulating economy is the most efficient and effective
because as needs arise people will adjust to serving each other’s requirements. According to classical
economic theory there is no government intervention and the people of the economy will allocate scarce
resources in the most efficient manner to meet the needs of individuals and businesses.
gospodarczej.
Prices in a classical economy are decided based on the raw materials used to produce, wages, electricity, and
other expenses that have gone in to deriving an output finished product. In classical economics, government
spending is minimum, whereas spending on goods and services by the general public and business investments
is considered as the most important to stimulate economic activity.
Keynesian economics harbors the thought that government intervention is essential for an economy
to succeed. Keynesian economics believes that economic activity is influenced heavily by decisions
made by both the private and the public sector.
Keynesian economics places government spending to be the most important in stimulating economic
activity, so much so that even if there is no public spending on goods and services or business investments,
the theory states that government spending should be able to spur economic growth.
Differences
gospodarczy i kapitał inwestycyjny.
Keynesizm kładzie nacisk na kontrolę i nadzór ze strony rządu.
A central tenet of Keynesian theory is that aggregate demand - the sum of household, business and
government spending - is one of the most important drivers of the economy.
The Keynesian school of thought holds that the government should actively control the economy, while the
Classical believes that the economy should regulate itself.
Classical theory holds that customers and free choice are the best drivers of economic growth and investment
capital.
Keynesianism emphasises government control and supervision.
