 Establishing a purpose for the DISCUSSION
lesson
Plate tectonics is a scientific theory that explains the earths outer shell, called
the lithosphere, is divided into large, rigid plates that move and interact with
one another on the earth’s surface. These tectonic plates are responsible for
shaping the earths continents, oceans, mountains, and geological features.
Key concepts of plate tectonics include Lithosphere Plates, Plate Movements
and types of plate boundaries.

INTERACTIVE DISCUSSION
“CRASH LANDING ON YOU” STRATEGY
EXPLORE
D. Discussing new concepts and  The teacher prepares an airplane that made of a paper.
practicing new skills #1  The teacher will throw the airplane at the front of all the students, if
the paper airplane land on a particular student, then the student will
answer the question.

Guide questions:
1.Why tectonic Plate move?
2. How will you describe the plate tectonic movements?
3. How many tectonics plates are there?

E. Discussing new concepts and Lets take a look at the motion of the crustal plates in the figure below
practicing new skills #1

The Three Types of Plates Boundaries

There are three distinct types of boundaries, which are differentiated by the
type of movement they exhibit.

The first type of plate boundary is termed divergent boundary wherein plates
move apart, creating a zone of tension. Plates move away from each other,
often creating mid-ocean ridges. Magma rises from the mantle to form new
crust.

Plates collide, and one maybe force beneath the other sub-duction, causing
the formation of mountain ranges, deep ocean trenches, and volcanic activity.
Lets take the case of the Philippines plate and the Eurasian plate. You will
notice that the two are moving towards each other. This is an example of a
zone where plates collide, and this second type of plate boundary is called
convergent plate boundary.

The third type is the transform fault boundary where plates slide or grind past
each other without diverging or converging. Plates slide past each other
horizontally, causing earthquakes along fault lines. The best example of this
plate boundary is the San Andreas fault which is bounded by the North
American plate and the Pacific plate.

F. Developing Mastery ORAL RECITATION
(Leads to Formative Assessment)
“PICK A PAPER” STRATEGY

 The teacher will prepare a box that contains a cutting piece of

paper , each piece of paper has a question then the student should
answer the given question

1. What is divergent plate boundary, and how does it form?

2. What is convergent plate boundary, and how does it form?
3. What is transform plate boundary, and how does it form?

ELABORATE “COLORS OF YOUR DREAM” STRATEGY

G. Finding Practical of concepts and
skills in daily living
 The teacher prepared a box that contains three types of color red,
yellow, and blue, then the students will randomly pick a color in the
box. The color serves as the group.
 (Red) for group one, (Yellow) for group two, and (Blue) for the group
3.
 The student will be graded base on their performance.

Create a song or yells presentation where you can demonstrate ways to ensure
disaster preparedness during earthquakes, tsunami and volcanic eruptions.

H. Making Generalization and “CALL A FRIEND” STRATEGY

Abstractions throughout the Lesson Guide Questions:
1.What is plate tectonics?
2. Enumerate the 3 types of plate boundaries
3.Is it important to prepare during earthquakes, tsunami and volcanic
eruptions? Why?
EVALUATE MULTIPLE CHOICE
I. Evaluating Learning Directions: To measure your knowledge about this topic, choose the
letter of the correct answer. Write the chosen letter in your science notebook.

b. earthquakes d. layer

2. When two tectonic plates collide and one is forced beneath the other, it
forms a:
a. rift valley c. mid- Ocean ridge
b. subduction zone d. transform fault
3. Which of the following is primarily responsible for driving the movement
of tectonic plates?

b. volcanic eruptions d. meteor impacts
10. Why is it important to value the significance between plate tectonics and
natural disasters?
a. understanding the relationship helps us predict when and where natural
disasters may occur, allowing for better preparedness and safety measures.
b. it has no real significance, and understanding this relationship is not crucial
for anyone.
c. plate tectonics and natural disasters are unrelated, and there is no need to
appreciate their connection.
d. it is only important for geologist and scientist: the general population does
not need to consider it.
