CHAPTER 3

DATA ANALYSIS INTERPRETATION

This chapter provides comprehensive analysis and interpretation of the data


gathered from the conducted survey- questionnaire. The following information are
reports from the results and responds from the survey questionnaire disseminated
regarding to the effect of Online Games on the senior high school student, and why they
play for a long period of time affecting to their academic performance.

I. The profile of respondents in terms of gender, age and year level.

(41.12%) out of 304 students are Female, followed by 18 (5.92%) are non-binary.

Based on the data collected, 264 (67%) out of 304 students are at the age of 17-18
years old. Then 93 (31%) out of 304 students are 15-16 years old, followed by 7 (2%)
out of 304 students who are 19 years old and above. This shows that teenagers 17-18
years old are more into playing games.

Chapter 4

SUMMARY OF FINDING, CONCLUSION, AND RECOMMENDATIONS

The study aims to determine the impact of online game habits on the academic
performance of the grade 12 students of the University of Saint Anthony as well as the
reason why students are addicted to playing online games. This study tends to attain
data and information through the following Statement of the Problem: 1. What is the
profile of the respondent in terms of a.) Gender b.) Age c.) Year-Level 2. What are the
most played online games and the features keeping users on the screen for longer periods
of time? 3. What are the significant effects of online gaming on the academic performance
of students? 4. What recommendations can be formulated based on the findings of the
study?

When conducting this research, the following assumptions were considered, IT


was assumed; 1. That the profile of the students may vary in gender, strand and year. 2.
That there are features that make it more addictive to online games. 3. That there is a
significant effect of online gaming on the academic performance of the students. 4. That
a proposal can be created in order to inform people as well as to determine the findings.

This quantitative research utilizes a non-experimental research design. This


study aims to determine the impact of online gaming addiction on the academic
performance of students.

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS

The following are the findings of the study:

1. Based on the conducted survey regarding the effect of online games in


academic performance of senior high school student at University of Saint
Anthony, the most popular and addictive games rank highest to lowest are as
follows: Mobile Legends, Call of Duty, Valorant, Pubg, Clash of Clans,
Genshin Impact, League of Legends.
2. The researcher can assert that excessive engagement in online gaming
significantly hampers academic performance both inside and outside the
educational setting. This is evident in their diminished attentiveness during
classes and their failure to complete or to do their assignments, activities, and
pt’s due to excessive involvement in online gaming activities.
3. Based on the collected data, the feedback indicates that students
experiencing addiction to online games are suffering from sleep deprivation,
experiencing difficulties in achieving proper sleep, facing inadequate dietary
habits, and lacking sufficient engagement in physical activities throughout
their day.

CONCLUSION

1. The data collected provides insights into the profile of respondents in terms
of gender, age, and grade level. It is observed that the majority of respondents are
male, followed by female and non-binary individuals. In terms of age, the data shows
that the majority of respondents fall within a specific age bracket, with teenagers aged
17-18 being the most prevalent. Additionally, the data reveals the distribution of
respondents across different grade levels, with a significant number in grade 11 and
grade 12. These findings highlight the demographic characteristics of the respondents
and provide a context for further analysis and understanding of their online gaming
habits.

2. The data reveals the most popular online games and the features that keep
players engaged for long periods. Mobile Legends, Call of Duty, Valorant, PUBG, Clash

of Clans, Genshin Impact, and League of Legends are among the top games. The
features that players find most engaging are strategic team play, fast-paced character-
driven gameplay, and dynamic building mechanics. Social elements, like multiplayer
interactions and online communities, are considered important factors in deciding to
continue playing a game. In-game rewards and progression systems also contribute to
sustained interest. Players are interested in emerging trends such as virtual reality,
cross-platform play, and enhanced AI. The most addictive aspects of online games are
in-game rewards, challenging gameplay, and social interactions. On average, players
spend 3-5 hours a day playing online games. These findings provide valuable insights
for game developers to enhance the gaming experience by focusing on social elements,
rewards, and new features.

3. The data reveals that online gaming has a significant impact on students'
academic performance. The genre of online games they play is believed to affect their
ability to focus on studies, and changes in sleep patterns due to gaming habits are
reported to impact academic performance. However, students also recognize the
potential for incorporating educational elements into online games to enhance the
learning value of their gaming experiences.

Despite feeling occasional impacts on academic performance and struggling to balance


gaming and academic responsibilities, students consistently use their gadgets for
school-related activities. However, it is concerning that a significant number of students
prioritize playing games over attending classes and completing homework. Despite
these challenges, they still manage to submit school requirements on time and achieve
high scores on quizzes and exams.

1. Maximize productivity by devoting time to essential activities and achieving


goals, minimizing gadget use and online gaming, to stay focused, reduce distractions,
and improve overall wellbeing.

2. They should avoid occasionally playing internet games and concentrate


more on things that are essential. Players should practice time management to increase
their understanding of appropriate time management, with a focus on the significance of
striking a balance between gaming and academics.

3. Students should not spend all of their time addicted to their devices and
online games; instead, they should be given time to play outside and maintain physical
fitness, which will increase their participation in class.
