Emma was curious about life in the 1980’s, so she asked her aunt Diana to tell

her how life was then.

Read the following description of life in the eighties.

There were a lot of changes in lifestyle in the 1980’s. One major transformation was the new,
expanded role of television. For example, cable television became available in many homes. So
many people could watch the new kinds of tv programs. The way we listen to music changed.
MTV, which was cable TV channel, brought a revolution to the music industry. It showed us a
different way to interact with music. Singers not only recorded their songs as before but
produced videos for everyone to watch. For the first time, we could record our favorite TV
shows and watch them later. The VCR was the major invention.
But maybe what made life as we knew it until then completely different was the personal
computer. During the eighties, ordinary people were able to have a PC. People at home managed
their finances, household tasks, and homework on their newly acquired PCs. Business started
automatization of process that could be done faster by machines than by human employees. A
new generation called Yuppies began to live in a different way. People invested in the stock
market and had money. They spent a lot of it on luxury articles, like clothes and cars and didn’t
care much about the environment. Gym and the fitness industry grew like foam.
