FORCE SWORD
Who am I?

My name is Mateusz and I've been painting under the

nickname "Galharen" since years. I'm also a hobbyist, exactly
like You, so welcome onboard and I hope you will stay longer
with me, it would be amazing to share some thoughts about
painting on my discord channel, feel free to join:)

Colors

Here is the list of paints which I used to paint the force effect:
- vallejo black
- vallejo white
- vallejo sky blue
- vallejo light turquoise
- vallejo emerald
- vallejo medium blue

In this case I used the Citadel layer size M brush:

step 1
Paints:
Vallejo black
Vallejo white

The first step is the basecoat. I used black primer, but to make to
process faster you could also use white primer directly.

I like to set the base colors for the other elements, in this case the
gold handle, so that when I was applying the white color on the
blade I already did the white halo on the hilt, it will help us later do
the glow effect.

The idea is to have a clear white blade at the end of this step.
step 2
Paints:
Vallejo sky blue

In this step I want to achieve two things.

Firstly, I want to darken the tip and bottom of the blade. The
transition between white and blue may be sharp, don't worry.
Secondly, using only horizontal moves (perpendicular to the blade
direction) I paint some dots/lines, focusing on the edges. By doing
this, I have in mind the effect of the buzzing energy around the source
of power.
Keep on mind that the middle of the blade has to stay white!
step 3
Paints:
Vallejo light turquoise
Vallejo emerald

I continue with darkening the tip/bottom of the blade using the

light turquoise color, which is a tone darker than previously used
sky blue. I move on with dotting/lining the edges, using two colors,
light turquoise and emerald. Adding a bit of emerald paint makes
the effect more interesting. I didn't blend them, just used one after
another, so to say 2 steps in one approach.
step 4
Paints:
Vallejo medium blue
Vallejo black

With the mix of medium blue and black in ratio 4:1 I repeated the
previous step but only on smaller scale. Have a look at the zoom
photo, I made a dark lines in the center of the blue spots created
before. After that I do it again using this time only the black paint, I
outline the edges of the blade and darken the tip and bottom
further.
step 5
Paints:
Vallejo sky blue
Vallejo emerald

The last step - glazing. I highly dilluted the sky blue and emerald
paints (ratio 3:1 water-paint, you can use glaze medium too) and I
glazed the middle edge of the blade as well as the top and bottom
of the blade. I found the black lines too intensive so I decided to
tone them down a little bit with glazes.
Final effect

The final effect is for sure eyecatching. Taking into account that it is
very fast method, I'm satisfied with the effect.
I magnetised the hands, what I strongly recommend, and I've already
tried it on my other Grey Knight models and this sword works well with
the theme. I also did the nemesis halberd in this style and the result is
also very cool, see above.
