Current Web Presence Analysis

Executive Summary
This document discusses my current and future web identities, the strengths and weaknesses, along with how I can achieve a more professional web identity. I have developed criteria that demonstrates what an employer is looking for in an employee in the area of study I am in. This document also analyzes whether or not my current web identity accomplishes this.

Future Web Presence In the future I hope to have a career as a health policy analyst working for either the government, a nonprofit, the health care industry. Because I am studying health policy and I'm very interested in this process and would enjoy being able to come up with my own ideas as solutions to some of its problems I would like to pursue this career. As a health policy analyst your day would consist of collecting data on issues such as payment schemes and outcome to eventually create a new plan for the proper care of patients and costs associated with health care. A health policy analyst would also be expected to present these plans in a presentation and once again repeat this process for further improvement.

Analysis of Job Advertisements


One of the job advertisements for this type of work I chose to analyze is for a compliance and policy analyst for Apria healthcare. Apria is looking for employees who have experience in analyzing health policy, some knowledge of medical terminology, some knowledge of insurance policies, and other key qualifications. Through this advertisement we can see that they are looking for an experienced professional who is organized and able to work well independently with patience to sit at a desk and analyze for long periods of time. The second advertisement was an advertisement for a public health policy analyst. In this advertisement they have put an emphasis on finding someone with excellent communication skills and experience. In the last advertisement in the Washington Post the American Pharmacist Association has placed an ad for a health policy analyst. The main qualities they seem to be looking for in a future employee are experience and ability to create a wide range of reports and documents and computer skills. After reviewing some Linkedin profiles of people with similar job titles I have found that one skill they all have in common is experience interning and in past jobs. Also education seems to play a key role in qualifications. The table below lists the criteria that can be used to evaluate future Health Policy Analysts. Current Web Presence


Currently I have on-line identities on social networking sites such as Facebook and Myspace. I also have a Wordpress, Mindmeister, and Diigo account used only for TWC 301. After searching for my on-line identities using Google, Yahoo, and Ask I have found that only one of these social networking sites shows up. My Facebook account shows up when I search for my on-line identity. Both of these profiles are private and only allow the public to view what I let them, which isn't much. These two online identities don't display much of the criteria I have listed in Table 1. The only criteria mentioned is education listing when I started at ASU and when I'm expected to graduate. The sections below analyze whether or not the listed criteria is demonstrated with my current web presence. Criteria Analysis Experience: My current we identity does not fulfill this criteria and isn't found on any of my existing profiles. Education: My education is listed in the current profiles I have and this criteria is fulfilled. On my Facebook account the year I began at Arizona State University and the year I'm expected to graduate is listed in my general information. Communication Skills: This criteria is not fulfilled with my current web identities. Because both of my current profiles are on social networking sites my skills aren't a major concern in my information. The information listed is mostly to let people know who I am so that people can find and connect with me. My wordpress account does display a little bit of this communication also by showing my interactions with my classmates. Diigo also allows my future employers to view what I share and how I communicate with my classmates. Computer Skills: This criteria is not fulfilled in my current web presence. Other than showing that I can use the basic tools on the computer such as the Internet these profiles do not display my experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Photoshop, and others computer programs. Ability to work Independently: This criteria is not completely fulfilled with my current web presence. Other than showing that I can communicate with others my current web presence fails to show that I can work well Independently and handle responsibility on my own. My Wordpress account shows just a piece of what I am able to accomplish on my own through the assignments I have accomplished in TWC 301.

Bridging the Gap


Because I don't have very much of a web presence my current web identities fail to meet most of the criteria I have listed as important. However, I don't feel that this is a bad thing. Because I don't already have much a a web presence I can build on the little that I do have and eventually develop it into what my future employers would like to see.
