TELEPROTECTION APPLICATION
INSTALLATION AND CONNECTION

1. GENERAL

This chapter describes installation and connection of DZ9 application building blocks, and does not
deal with the system part of the SparkEnergy device. Building blocks of the DZ9 application are:
 FPDZ front panel
 TLI line unit with built-in line interface
 GOOSE command and signalling unit CSG
 Relay command and signalling unit CSR
The number of the TLI, CSR and CSG units built in the device depends on the user’s project design
requirements.
Installation and connection of the DZ9 application shall be made following the installation of the
system part of the device, described in the chapter entitled “SYSTEM – Installation and Connection”.

2. NECESSARY TOOLS AND MATERIAL

2.1. TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES

Installation and connection require the following tools and accessories:


 Standard tools
 Soldering iron
 Crimping tool for cable ends
 Fusion splicer with cleaver and accessories (if optical connections are made by the client)
 Crimping tool for RJ connectors
 “KRONE” tools

2.2. MATERIAL

Accessories enclosed with the SparkEnergy device comprise all material required for installation and
connection of the DZ9 application (see Chapter 6).

3. INSTALLATION

3.1. UNIT INSERTION

The units shall be inserted in the cabinet from the rear. Before inserting the units, the rear cover of the
device housing shall be removed. Application units shall be inserted or replaced while the device is
disconnected from power. Position 1 shall always be occupied by the TLI unit. Other units can be
inserted in any vacant position from 2 to 12 in the UCR housing. The order of inserted units is
irrelevant.
Data on the respective positions of inserted units is relevant for subsequent software settings of the
device.

3.2. DZ9 FRONT PANEL INSTALLATION

The device can have a universal FPU front panel or a dedicated DZ9 front panel, FPDZ, which is
equipped with LED indicators providing information on the state of the application and its
subassemblies.
In the event that the FPDZ front panel is ordered as an independent building block and not built into
the device, the panel is provided with all screwing material required for the installation of the panel on
the device’s housing.
The FPDZ front panel installation and/or the FPU front panel replacement by the FPDZ panel shall
proceed as follows:
 Switch off the device
 If the FPU front panel is already installed on the device, remove it. Unscrew the six screws
on the front side of the panel, which fix it to the housing, and the two screws on the RS232
interface. Pull out the front panel from the K30 connector located in the base panel of the
housing.
 Place the FPDZ front panel on the K30 connector and fix it by screws, as appropriate, to the
housing and to the RS232 interface.
 The device is ready to be switched on.

3.3. INSTALLATION OF LINE INTERFACE TO THE TLI UNIT

Line interface is a “piggy-back” unit designed to be installed on the TLI line unit. If the line interface is
ordered as an independent building block and not built into the TLI unit, the interface is provided with
all necessary screws and other material required for the installation of the interface. Screws and
pertaining material also include spacers for fixing the “piggy-back” unit to the TLI unit’s printed circuit
since different line interfaces have a different number of spacers of different heights.
The installation and/or replacement of a line interface shall proceed as follows:
 Pull out the TLI unit from the housing.
 If a “piggy-back” unit is already installed on the TLI unit, remove it. Unscrew the screws on
the bottom side of the TLI unit which fix the “piggy-back” unit to the printed circuit. Pull the
“piggy-back” unit together with spacers from the K6 (and K7) connectors of the TLI unit.
 Place the new “piggy-back” unit with spacers on the K6 (and K7) connectors of the TLI unit
and fix it by screws on the bottom side of the printed circuit of the TLI unit.
 Insert the TLI unit into the device’s housing.

4. CONNECTION

4.1. COMMAND AND SIGNALLING RELAY UNIT CSR

The CSR command and signalling relay unit enables connection to protection equipment. The
connection is made through the K3 user connector (MSTBA 2.5/16).

We recommend the use of intermediate external terminal. The user has two possibilities:
 To make the terminals and connecting cable between the CSR unit and terminal connectors
by itself;
 To use a factory-made building block CCT1, i.e., connecting cable with terminals for the CSR
unit.

Protection equipment shall be connected to the unit by means of a 16x0.5 mm2 tinned copper wire
braid cable. Cable shield needs to be earthed to the earthing rail of the SparkEnergy device housing
(see Chapter 5).

4.1.1. CCT1 Connecting Cable with Terminal for CSR Unit

Necessary quantity: one piece of CCT1 connecting cable with terminals per each CSR unit.
The terminal block is made by disconnect type terminals, and it is designed for installation on a
standard mounting rail DIN35. It is provided with 3 m long connection cable OLFLEX CLASSIC 115
CY, 18G0,5. On the side of the CSR unit, the cable is terminated by a 16-pole connector, connected
on the rear side to the K3 user connector of the CSR unit. The other end of the cable is terminated on
the CCT1 terminal block.

4.2. GOOSE COMMAND AND SIGNALLING UNIT CSG

The CSG unit enables the following connections:


PSM user connection (K3 connector; RJ45 connector) which is intended for direct connection of
personal computer with installed PSM user interface for IEC61850 settings and control of the CSG
unit. A “cross-over” network cable is used or normal network cable in the case when portable
computer is furnished with automatic detection of cable type.
RS232 connection (K20 connector; RJ10 connector) which is intended for the manufacturer to install,
in the factory, software in the CSG unit and for the needs of development. This connection is not
intended for the user.
GOOSE user connections for connection to the station IEC61850 Ethernet network. Both connections
are used in the case of a “double star” or “ring” network topology (RSTP). Regarding the type of
connection, there are two types of CSG unit.
The CSG unit with connectors K4 and K5 (RJ45 connector) where a cable of 4x2xAWG 24/1 and
metal tinned copper wire braid or foil-protected cable with aluminum foil and tinned copper wire braid,
of 5e category. Cable braid must be earthed to the earthing bar of the device housing (see Chapter 5).
The maximum permissible cable length is 90m.

The CSG unit with SFP cages SFP1 and SFP2. Optical or RJ45 electric SFP module can be inserted
in the cages. Optical Fast Ethernet SFP modules with wavelength of 1310nm are used for optical
connection of the CSG unit.
Warning!
Protection plugs must be mounted on the user connectors of SFP module all the time until the optical
cable is connected.

4.3. TLI LINE UNIT

TLI line unit enables connection to transmission path. The connection shall be made through the line
interface user connector (user connectors) installed on the TLI unit in the form of a “piggy-back” unit.
Each interface on the TLI unit shall be connected by means of suitable cables/optical fibres directly to
the connectors of the equipment providing transmission path and/or to the respective connectors of
the main distribution frame, if any.

4.3.1. Line Interface E1-75/120

The E1-75/120 line interface enables connection to transmission path using the K3 user connector
(120 Ohm symmetrically, RJ45 connector) or K4 and K5 (2x 75 Ohm asymmetrically, 2x BNC
connector).
A 120 Ohm cable with tinned copper wire braid and dimensions 4x2xAWG 24/1 or a category 5e cable
with aluminum foil and tinned copper wire braid shall be used for connection to the K3 connector
(RJ45).
A 75 Ohm screened cable type RG-59 shall be used for connection to K4 and K5 (BNC).
In both cases the cable shield needs to be earthed to the earthing rail of the SparkEnergy device
housing (see Chapter 5).

4.3.2. Line interface K64

Line interface K64 (G703.1 64kbps interface) enables connection to transmission path using the K2
(RJ45-PCB) user connector. The connection shall be made by means of a 4x2xAWG 24/1 cable with
tinned copper wire braid or a category 5e cable with aluminum foil and tinned copper wire braid. The
cable shield needs to be earthed to the earthing rail of the SparkEnergy device housing (see Chapter
5). The maximum cable length is 100m.

4.3.3. Line interface FOI

The FOI line interface allows connection to the optical network via the optical LC connector on the
SFP module.
The optical SFP module is inserted into the SFP cage of the FOI interface and connected to an optical
fiber splitter corresponding to the SFP module used. We can only use SFP modules that have an
electrical connection in accordance with SFP MSA (SFP multi-source agreement)

Until the optical cable is connected, protective plugs must be installed on the user connectors of the
SFP module at all times.

4.3.4. Line interface IPI

The IPI line interface allows connection to the Ethernet network via an electrical RJ45 connector or via
an optical SFP port. Only one port is always active. When SFP module is inserted in the SFP cage,
the optical connection is active, otherwise an electrical connection is active.
To connect the RJ45 connector shall be made by means of a 4x2xAWG 24/1 cable with tinned copper
wire braid or a cable with aluminum foil a category of at least 5e.
The cable shield must be grounded to the ground plane of the device (see Chapter 5). The maximum
permissible cable length is 90m.
The optical SFP module is inserted into the SFP cage of the IPI interface and connected to the optic
splitter corresponding to the SFP module used.
Warning!
Protective plugs shall be placed on the SFP cage at all times until the optic cable is connected.

4.3.5. Line interface LFI

Line interface LFI (low frequency interface) enables connection to the analogue transmission path
using the user connector K2 (Phoenix). The connection shall be made by means of a 3x2xAWG 24/1
cable with tinned copper wire braid or a cable with aluminum foil and tinned copper wire braid. The
cable shield needs to be earthed to the earthing rail of the SparkEnergy device housing (see Chapter
5).

5. SPARKENERGY DZ9 WIRING

5.1. CABLE FASTENING AND CABLE SHIELD EARTHING

All the cables must be fastened appropriately to the earthing rail of the device housing (UCR). Cables
with tinned copper wire braid must have the cable shield earthed to the earthing rail of the device
housing. This is important in order to achieve the declared resistance of the device to electromagnetic
interference.
First, the cable shall be fastened. In the case of cables with tinned copper wire braid the cable shield
shall be fastened next. The cable shall be fastened to the lower part of the earthing rail, and the cable
shield to the upper part of the earthing rail of the device. The cable and the braid shall be fastened by
plastic cable ties supplied with the accessories of the SparkEnergy device.
Cable shield shall be earthed in two phases:
 Removal of cable insulation at the place where the cable is to be fastened to the earthing rail
 Cable fastening (at the place without insulation) to the upper part of the earthing rail.

Warning!
When connecting optical fibres to the FOI, IPI or to CSG unit and fixing them, it is necessary to:
 ensure the maximum possible optic fibre bending radius that is enabled by the rear cover of
the device
 take care that the binders used to fasten optic fibres to terminal strip will not damage the
fibres
