Writing Task 2:
What are the advantages and disadvantages of students' having a part time job? Write at least 250 words

In recent years, there has been much controversy about whether working temporary jobs brings more beneficial
aspects or drawbacks. While some worry that this trend may have certain adverse effects on students, I believe that
its benefits outweigh the downsides.

On the one hand, there are some disadvantages for students who work on a part-time basis. Firstly, what should be
factored in is that students would be struggling to manage their work-life balance. This is due to the busy schedule of
going to work and school every day, which can lead to a decline in not only mental health but also physical health. In
addition, many young people—those who are workaholics and also want to get good grades in school—tend to stay
up late at night to complete their homework. This is an extremely bad habit that can seriously harm their overall
health in the long run. Furthermore, students who work part-time jobs outside of class tend to have poor
performance in school. Such problems can have a negative impact on their image with their instructors.

Nevertheless, I would argue that the above drawbacks are outweighed by the benefits. The most glaring virtue is that
students have additional sources of income and freedom in their personal lives. This is because these sources of
income from seasonal jobs will reduce the burden on family finances. At the same time, students also have an
additional source of budget for personal purposes such as shopping, studying, expanding relationships, and personal
development. Another obvious benefit is that students can enhance their soft skills and life experiences. For example,
students who work seasonal jobs in restaurants, cafes, or hotels can learn skills in handling situations and
negotiating with customers. These skills will be a stepping stone and a solid foundation for their future careers. In
addition, students can also understand more about the value of money, thereby appreciating the values they create.

In conclusion, although it is clear that students are negatively affected by part-time jobs, they can still gain financial
freedom and step out of their comfort zone when choosing to work outside of class. In my view, the potential benefits
outweigh any disadvantages.
