1. INTRODUCTION
etaSMART series APFC relay is designed for power factor correction in a 3-phase L-T distribution systems. The relay maintains the
system power factor at a set value, under fluctuating load conditions, by connecting or disconnecting capacitor banks to the 3
phase voltage line. etaSMART connects in quadrature connection which use two phases for voltage measurement and third phase
for current measurement. It is designed for the measurement of voltage, current, system power factor, required reactive power
compensation along with auto programming feature & THD measurement up to 13th harmonics. A specially formulated
optimization program for capacitor bank switching ensures accurate power factor control at the set point and hunt free operation.

DIS SENSITVITY
60 s

15
16
SENSITIVITY: It defines the speed of capacitor bank connection. A low sensitivity provides faster connection with greater
number of capacitor switching whereas high sensitivity provides slower connection with less number of capacitor switching.
Example:
If required kVAr to reach the target PF is 80kVAr, then soft logic internally calculates number of required steps to connect and
achieve target PF.
Suppose require steps to achieve target PF is 4 & sensitivity is set as 60, then switching time between two banks will be
calculate as, Switching Time = Sensitivity / n = 60/4 =15 Sec
So, each capacitor bank will connect to the line voltage in interval of 15sec.
Sensitivity is applicable for only Relay steps connection.

DIS SENSITIVITY: It defines the speed of capacitor bank disconnection.

Switching Time between two banks = (Dis Sensitivity)/ (Required steps to disconnect)
Disconnection Sensitivity is applicable for only Relay steps disconnection.
