Ladder Hardware Installation Instructions

The following instructions detail how to rework the platform emergency egress ladder on the right
side of the machine. For the purposes of these Instructions, the Machine shown is a 16M3/ 18M3.

Note: For 16M Motor Graders, the rework procedure is essentially the same, however the new latch
mounting bracket locations are different than the 16M3/ 18M3 The required parts are the same.

Washers, one 8T-4223 Hard Washer, and one 129-3180 M12 Jam-Locknut. The head of the
shoulder bolt will face towards the inside of the ladder. Torque the M12 locknut to 100 ± 20 N·m
(73.75 ± 14.75 lb ft).
Note: Repeat the process to attach the ladder to the platform on the other side.

Illustration 17 g06135441
17. With the ladder assembled and attached to the machine, fold it up. This will be a check to
determine if the latch brackets are correctly oriented. If the brackets are correctly aligned such
that the ladder is both capable of being stored as well as being secure, then continue on to the
next step where the brackets are fully welded on. Note: adjustment of the rubber bumpers may
be required to allow proper latch function. If the brackets are not correctly aligned (that is, the
latch will not function as expected), then remove the tack welds from the corners. Realign the
bracket such that the latch can be operated, and tack weld the corners again as seen in a prior
step.

18. Once the brackets are set up so that the latches are aligned, drop the ladder so that it is out of
the way. Remove the latches, bolts, and washers, and put them in a safe location as they will
be put on later.
