1. Safety instructions
Before installing, operating and maintaining the ceramic filter, read the
relating manual carefully. Improper use may cause damages to the filter or
injuries personnel!

Instructions of manuals contain two types of information boxes that inform the
user of proper use of the filter or of possible danger relating to the given
operation.

! Note
Text indicates how to act in different situations to operate the filter correctly and
safely.

! Warning
Text warns of a danger that can cause serious injuries to personnel.

Always follow carefully the instructions given in information boxes !

1.1 General warnings in operation of the filter

! Warning
Never walk on the guards of the filter. Falling to the basin of running filter can
cause lethal injuries.

! Warning
Never run the filter if all the guards and covers are not properly fixed.

Warning!
Never touch the plates or scrapers, when the drum is rotating. They may
cause serious injuries !

Warning!
Nitric acid is used for the washing of the filter plates. To avoid skin burns and
other injuries use adequate protection and follow local regulation.

If strong nitric acid contacts slurry or solids, toxic gases can be generated.
2. Installation

2.1 Loading tolerance and space requirements

Lay the foundation for the filter according to figures 2.1.

! Note
Drawings in Installation Manual are principal. Project drawings must be used for
installation

! Note
Horizontal difference of the filter feet must not be more than 3 mm (RX-60)

Foundation loads has been calculated with a normal slurry level.

Table 2.1 Foundation loads

RX-60 F1= 43 000 N F2 = 65 000 N F3 = 60 000 N F4 = 65 000 N

Table 2.2 Filter mass and total load

Density Filter mass
Slurry load [l] Total load [kg]
[kg/m3] [kg]
RX-60 9 120 l 3 500 kg/ m3 15 500 kg 47 420 N
Figure 2.1 Foundation loads for RX-60

Leave space around the filter according to the figure 2.2.

2.2 Unloading and storing conditions
2.2.1 General
The ceramic filters and their spare parts are delivered in iron containers lined
with a weatherproof tarpaper. The filters are equipped with a lift frame and lift
lugs to make the lifting and transportation easier.

2.2.2 Unloading precautions

Handle the containers with care to avoid causing damage to the supplied
equipment or the container.

Containers that weigh more than 200 kg must not be dragged along the base but
they must be hoisted from the marked lifting points or from the bottom of the
container.

The containers must be hoisted and handled only with equipments made for this
purpose.

2.2.3 Storing conditions

You can store the filter containers outdoors in the temperature range of
-40°C...+30°C if they have not been opened. The relative humidity should not be
higher than 80 %. The maximum storing time is three (3) months.

If you open the container, make sure that it will not be exposed to rain, snow or
direct sunshine. If the equipment gets wet, you must protect it from freezing and
move it to a dry place. If the storing time is longer than two (2) weeks, you must
close the container carefully.

2.2.4 Spare part storing

You should store the spare parts within a temperature range of +5...+50°C. The
maximum relative humidity of the storage surroundings should not be higher
than 80%.

2.3 Unpacking
To unpack the filter, proceed as follows:
Remove filtrate and acid pump from the container
Remove the spare parts (if supplied).
Remove the container.
Lift the filter to its foundation
Remove the lifting frame.
2.3.1 Unpacking the train transportation container
To unpack the filter, proceed as follows:
Remove filtrate and acid pump from the container
Remove the spare parts (if supplied).
Remove the container. (see figures 2.5)
Turn the filter to upright position.
Lift the filter to its foundation (see figures 2.6).
Fit the ceramic plates according to the maintenance manual
NOTE! the filter plates are fragile

The filter weight and the lifting angles are shown in figure 2.4. Make sure that
these requirements are met when the filter is lifted. The guides of the lifting
points must be marked on the container. All the dimensions are the inside
measures of the container. The filter has been packed with the a lifting circle.

Figure 2.4 The lifting dimensions and the mass centre for RX-60

The text on the bottom of the container shows the scraper side of the filter. The
lifting lug areas must be marked on the container. All dimensions are inside
measures of the container. The filter is packed to the container with a lifting
circle.
