Pauper Burial Policy

The Hinds County Pauper’s Bural site is located on the grounds of the Hinds County Detention Center.
As such, security protocols must be met. As of January 16, all individuals not employed by or
representing Hinds County who wish to visit the Pauper’s burial site on the grounds of the Hinds
County Detention Center must give 48 hours notice to the Hinds County Coroner, Sheriff and/or County
Administrator. They must give their names and reason for visiting the site and the Hinds County Sheriff
Department will conduct a background search on the names to ensure that security protocols are met. If
the individuals are granted permission to visit the site, the individuals and their vehicles will be subject
to search conducted by officers and/or canines with the Hinds County Sheriff Department. Any
individuals allowed to visit the Pauper Burials site will be accompanied by an officer of the Hinds
County Sheriff’s Department and will be permitted to view the area for a limited period of time.
Permission of the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department must be given prior to any photographs and/or
videos being taken at the site.
