Evaluation Instrument- Guskey’s Levels of Evaluation

Laquita Ngando Duvall

Professional Development:
Teachers who joined a Professional Learning Network (PLN) on Integrating Technology will
meet twice a month. The Professional Learning Community will consist of one teacher from
each grade level and at least one administrator observing each meeting. We will focus on
implementing different types of technology one at a time so teachers can learn, apply, and
share after Professional Development. For this meeting, we will focus on incorporating I Ready
into classroom lessons. I-Ready is an adaptive learning platform that incorporates state
standards and assesses students with a diagnostic test in reading and math. Based on the
students’ diagnostic I-Ready uses the data to assign students individualized instructional
pathways. The program provides instructional tools in reading and math for teachers to engage
and support students based on their needs.

Criterion 1: Guskey Levels

Level 1: Participant’s Reaction
At Level 1, teachers will determine if they like the Professional Development on integrating I-
Ready into their lessons. This will give us an opportunity to learn if teachers can use the
technology program, do they like it, will they use it with their students, and share with other
educators.

Level 2: Participant’s Learning

At Level 2, we will determine knowledge gained from integrating I-Ready. We will demonstrate
how to integrate I-Ready into a lesson and teachers will share their knowledge at the end of the
professional development. We can measure what information and skills the teacher gained in
the learning experience through demonstration and reflections.

Level 3: Organization Support and Change

At Level 3, we determine the support of the organization. Support, climate, and resources are
key in the evaluation process and Professional Development. Evaluation instruments must be in
place to measure the effectiveness of the organization in order to provide support and change in
Professional Development.

Level 4: Participant’s Use of Knowledge

At Level 4, we gather information that will measure the quality and degree of implementation.
Did the Professional Development on integrating I-Ready into their lesson make a difference in
their practice? We will measure teachers' progress multiple times to see if they have been
trained proficiency and if they can use I-Ready into their lesson to enhance their lesson with
technology.

Level 5: Student Learning Outcomes

At Level 5, we can finally measure if I-Ready Professional Development affected students. We
can measure if students' performances increased using surveys, observations, questionnaires,
student work, and data. We can measure the teachers training received on I-Ready made an
impact in their classroom and affected student learning outcomes. We can make changes to
Professional Development if necessary.

Criterion 2: Instructional Technology

The Professional Development is designed to implement I-Ready into lessons for math and
reading for grades kindergarten through fifth grade. This program empowers teachers with a
deeper knowledge of their students so they can take meaningful instructional next steps.
Teachers will learn how to utilize I-Ready during daily lessons and intervention to support
reading comprehension in all core content areas, vocabulary, and math.

Criterion 3: School-wide
For school wide implementation, we would take the data collected from the evaluation
instruments and analyze the effectiveness of the Professional Development in our Professional
Learning Community on Technology Integration. Next steps as a school-wide plan will be for all
the teachers to use I-Ready.

Criterion 4: Informing Future Decisions

The data from the program evaluation instrument can inform future professional learning
programs. If the plan is successful, we can use this for future technology programs the county
purchases school wide. Using I-Ready or any technology program, we can determine if the
technology is successful in the Professional Learning Community and if any changes are
necessary before we plan a school-wide implementation.
