The Quarterly Church Conference for First Baptist Church was held last Wednesday evening.

Two issues of major concern were brought before the conference. First was the approval of the 2011 operating budget. The total budget for 2011 will be $974,378. This is about a one percent increase over the previous budget. We will end the year in the black but will fall short of last years budgeted amounts by about five percent. Copies of the church budget are available in the church office. The other major item of business was an update on the mold issue in the Shell Annex. The Property Committee is recommending a complete replacement of the units and duct work in the Annex. First step in doing this is to secure a qualified structural engineer to draw up plans for the new unit. The church voted in favor of proceeding with this. The next step is to put the plans for replacement out for bids and then to begin the work. This will not be a fast process but every effort is being made to be expedient. The projected cost of the project is in excess of $200,000 and IS NOT a budgeted item. This means extra funds will need to be raised and or secured. Everyone enjoys the Shell Annex. By giving together, the project could be easily completed without financing. My family and I want to wish each of you a very Merry Christmas! Thank you for the kindness shown to us during this season. We look forward to seeing you this Sunday for regular services. Paul

CHILDRENS MUSIC PROGRAM The sanctuary was nearly full last Sunday night as our Childrens Choirs shared their gifts of music. All of our childrens groups did a wonderful job of singing for us. We are blessed to have the best choir leaders in the world to lead our children. The work that they do and the lessons they teach will have eternal benefits in the lives of these children and those they will touch in the future. Thanks to each leader for using your gifts of love and music to shape our childrens lives. SAINTS ALIVE GATHERING AND SINGING A special thanks to all who were able to share on Monday, December 20. The noon lunch at Boyds was great. The three concerts with the residents at Bainbridge Healthcare, Johnsons Personal Care Home and Riverside Place were truly a blessing to singers and those in the homes. Our hearts were touched as we witnessed many of the residents with tears in their eyes as we sang praises to our Lord Jesus. Faithful service has rewards here on earth and in heaven! Our next meeting of Saints Alive will be Monday, January 10. Please make a note of this change FELLOWSHIP CLUB JANUARY ACTIVITY Next months meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 10th ( Watch this column for a possible change due to the Fellowship hall renovation.) Entering the house, they saw the child with Mary His mother, and falling to their knees, they worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures an presented Him with gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh (Matthew2:11) No manger scene is complete without them. The Wise Men tell each of us what it means to worship the King. Their actions meant more than words. They fell on their knees before the Christ child, giving to him what He truly deserves. Our Worship! Each year as I read this portion of the life of Jesus I wonder, just as those who where there that sacred night, what does it mean to truly bow down before the King? To me it means we must humble ourselves before Him. Humility is a great characteristic of a Christian. But, you cant know humility without sacrifice. Looking at the wise mens gifts: gold, frankincense, myrrh we see that true worship means giving your all to Christ. By giving God our gold, we help fund His work. In Jesus day, myrrh was believed to strengthen children. When we love our kids, encourage them with our words, and help them build a relationship with Jesus, we develop the next generation of Christ followers. Finally, frankincense was incense used for worship. God desires our worship at Christmas and throughout the year. The wise men gave extravagant gifts to the King, and we should give extravagantly, too. Merry Christmas to each and everyone! Earl Portions of this article are from Stand Firm Devotional

Thank You I would like to thank my wife Kelley for stepping in and helping me tremendously the past couple of days.
