The Comparison Among Hair, Corn Fiber, and Straw in Absorbing Oil

Spills: An Experimental Research

CHAPTER III: METHODOLOGY

Research Design

In this study‚ we use a quantitative type of research‚ it employs an

experimental research design to investigate the effectiveness of hair, corn fiber, and
wheat straw as absorbents for oil spills. The experimental design allows for the
controlled manipulation of variables and the comparison of outcomes, facilitating the
determination of the most efficient absorbent material.

Research locale

This experimental study is conducted at Brgy. Sta. Monica, Puerto Princesa

City, Palawan.

Research Instrument

To determine the different absorbent abilities of human hair, corn fiber, and
wheat straw, we will use basins, used engine oil, bottles, plastic gloves, stockings, and
water.

Data Gathering Procedure

We are going to conduct an experiment to collect data for this study. In order
to carry out the experiment, we will first fill the three basins with water, measure the
same amount of oil, and then pour it into the water-filled basins. Next, we will use one
kilogram of each absorbent and place it inside the stocking that corresponds to it.
Finally, we will place the product on the appropriate basin and move it around to absorb
as much oil as possible, and finally we will measure the amount of oil absorbed by
each absorbent.

Statistical Treatment

This study investigated the oil absorption capacity and efficiency of Wheat
straw, Corn fiber, and Human hair as natural sorbents for oil spills clean up.

Statistical tools that we are using: One way Anova

This research we want to find the difference about these three absorbents. We
split participants to rate absorbents level on a scale of 1-10. (Wheat straws (1kg), Corn
fiber (1kg), and Hair strand (1kg)). Are there any differences about these three
absorbents using the alpha = 0.05

Ha: Not all Ins are equal

Stating the alpha = 0.05

Conclusion:

The three material differed significantly on absorbent level at F: (2.27) =

2.5106 > 5.32 therefore we reject the null hypothesis since the computed value is
greater than 2.5106.
