KMS3084 Employment Laws (Tutorial 2)

(1) Siew Yian working as HR Executive in Selangor with the basic salary of RM3,500.
She is working on every Monday to Friday (8am to 5pm) and Saturday (half day,
from 8am to 12pm). Her rest day is on every Sunday. There is something urgent
that her employer want her to finish up after her office hours. Calculate the
amount of overtime that she will get if:

(a) She is working on Saturday from 1pm to 5pm and

(b) She is coming to work on Sunday from 9am to 6pm (with one hour lunch in
between).

(2) Rodney is working as Senior Lab Technician in Sarawak with the basic salary of
RM3,000. He is working on shift for 6 days work week. Calculate her overtime if
she is required to work on:

(a) During her rest day for 3 hours;

(b) During her rest day for 7 hours;

(c) During public holiday for 3 hours;

(d) During public holiday for 7 hours; and

(e) During public holiday for 11 hours.

(3) Siti Khadijah has been absent for 5 days in the month of November 2023 due to
medical issues and she has been given a medical certificate (MC) by clinic.
However, she has utilized all his sick leave already. Calculate how much is the
unpaid sick leave for Siti Khadijah if her basic salary is RM3,800 per month.

(4) Farah has utilized all her annual leave entitlement since November 2023.
However, she needs to take 5 days leave in December 2022. She applied for leave
and it has been agreed by the Compony based on unpaid leave for the month of
December 2023. Calculate the amount of her unpaid leave with the assumption
that her basic salary is RM3,500 per month and she is working on 6 days work
week.

(5) Samantha has been working with Company ZZZ for 6 months and she is expected
to give birth to her first child on the third week of December 2023 onwards. The
HR Manager of ZZZ Company mentioned to Susan she can take unpaid maternity
leave because she is currently not officially married yet. What is your opinion on
this case.
