summary?

This time we are not going to answer

the plot of the play because that will
be one of your group activity later. So
let proceed to the characters.
Who are the main characters in the Lena Younger, Walter
summary? Lee, Beneatha, and
Ruth.

Very good. Now based on our

discussion last meeting, can you tell
me what type of character Lena (students answer may
Younger or Mama? vary)

Lena or Mama – serve as protagonist

of the play. She is the one who correct
and give advices to her family. She
demands that members of her family
respect themselves and take pride in
their dreams.

Walter – serves as both protagonist

and antagonist of the play. The
actions/decisions he takes leads him
to become both protagonist and
antagonist. For example, he wants to
lift up his family from poverty then he
invests most of the money in liquor
business.

Beneatha – serves as dynamic of the

play. Through the influence of one of
her pursuers, Asagai, Beneatha
became more familiar to her African
roots and heritage. For example,
Beneatha stopped straightening her
hair.

Ruth – serves as static character

which she doesn’t change throughput
the play. For example, Ruth hides her
opinions and feelings because she
doesn’t want to bring more conflict
into the family.

Let’s move to the genre of the drama. (students share their

What do you think is the genre of the answer)
play?

Yes, it is a Domestic drama because it

expresses and focuses on the realistic
everyday lives of middle or lower
classes in a certain society.

about dream, discrimination, Family
