Stages Teacher’s Activity
Pre-teaching (10 Activity 1: Matching
minutes) - T shows 4 pictures of career outfits and 4 pictures of the
workplaces.
- T asks Ss to work in pairs to match these pictures and then
guess the name of each job. One outfit corresponds to one
workplace.
- T invites 3 pairs to share their answers in front of the class
and corrects them.
- T asks Ss to guess the theme for today’s lesson.
While-teaching (35 Activity 2: Teaching vocabulary (15 minutes)
minutes) - T gives lyrics handouts to Ss and asks Ss to highlight the
words that they consider to be the names of the jobs.
- T invites 2 Ss to show their answers in front of the class.
- T corrects them.
- T lets Ss listen to the song. Pause the song after a job and
gives job descriptions (ex: the nature of the job). (an astronaut,
a valet, a farmer, a ballerina, a journalist, a geologist, a
novelist, a soldier, a surgeon, a waitress, a judge, a teacher, a
politician).
- T asks Ss to guess the meaning of these words.
- T corrects the answers and explains the different types and
meanings of the words.
- T shows the pictures of these jobs one by one and asks Ss to
repeat after T pronounces the new words. Then, T shows the
pictures again and asks Ss to say the words on their own.
Activity 3: Gap filling (10 minutes)
 - T asks Ss to use the words related to jobs that they’ve just
learned to fill in the blanks.
- Ss compare their answers with each other.
- T checks Ss' answers and provides the answers to the
sentences for which they are unsure.
Activity 4: “Guess my job” game (10 minutes)
- T divides the class into 2 teams.
- T gives the flashcards describing jobs based on the lesson to
one team, who will perform actions explaining each job while
the other team guesses which job it is. They can also use
spoken words to give clues if the other team doesn’t know the
answers, such as hints about what clothes people doing the job
wear or where they are supposed to work.
Post-teaching (15 Activity 5: Writing and speaking
minutes) - T asks Ss to write a short paragraph (100 words) about their
dream job. They can follow these questions: What is your
dream job? Why would you like to do that job? What are your
greatest strengths and weaknesses?
- T lets Ss volunteer present their ideas in front of the class (if
not, T invites 3-4 students)
- T gives comments.
- T wraps up the lesson.
