2 ACTIVATE ENGINEERS ALARM

3 IF POSSIBLE STOP MAIN ENGINE AND AUX BLOWERS

IF MAIN ENGINE CANNOT BE STOPPED DUE TO ANY REASON


4 REDUCE RPM TO DEADSLOW AND INCREASE CYLINDER OIL FEED
TO MAXIMUM TILL STOPPAGE PERMITTED

5 UPON STOPPAGE TURN OFF FUEL SUPPLY

6 DO NOT STOP COOLING WATER AND LUBRICATING OIL PUMPS

OPEN STEAM VALVES FOR SCAVENGE MANIFOLD FIRE


7 EXTINGUISHING SYSTEM, FOR LOCATION REFER TO BACK PAGE

CLOSE FIRE EXTINGUISHING VALVES WHEN TEMPERATURE


8 DROPS DOWN TO 80C

DO NOT OPEN SCAVENGE MANIFOLD COVERS OR INSPECTION


9 WINDOWS TILL SCAVENGE MANIFOLD TEMPERATURE DROPS
DOWN TO 50C
SCAVENGE FIRE EXTINGUISHING VALVES LOCATED ON FWD SIDE OF M/E AT
LOWER PLATFORM.

IN ORDER TO ACTIVATE, CUT STEEL LOCKING WIRE CONNECTING TWO


HANDLES TOGETHER AND OPEN BOTH VALVES.

IMPORTANT: UNDER NORMAL RUNNING CONDITIONS KEEP


VALVES FULLY CLOSED AND HANDLES LOCKED TOGETHER IN
ORDER TO PREVENT OPENING ACCIDENTALLY OR BY
VIBRATION

IN THE EVENT OF FUNNEL FIRE, FOLLOW THE PROCEDURES LISTED

VICINITY OF CRANKCASE RELIEF VALVES

6 DO NOT OPEN CRANKCASE COVERS BEFORE 30 MINUTES

FOLLOW PROCEDURES IN CASE OF SUDDEN WATER INGRESS
TO E/R BILGES

1. UPON NOTICING ABNORMAL WATER INGRESS INTO E/R BILGES, SOURCE


UNKNOWN, ACTIVATE ENGINEERS ALARM, INFORM BRIDGE AND REQUEST
PERMISSION TO STOP MAIN ENGINE AND OPERATION OF EMG BILGE SUCTION

2. TRY TO IDENTIFY LOCATION OF INGRESS POINT. E/R HAS CENTRALIZED LT FW


COOLING SYSTEM, WITH LIMITED AMOUNT OF SW PIPES PASSING AROUNG E/R.
MONITOR ALARM SYSTEM FOR LOW LEVEL OF EXPANSION TANKS OR WHICH
BILGE LEVEL ALARM ACTIVATED FIRST. THIS MAY HELP FOR SAVING TIME TO
LOCATE.
3. DO NOT ENTER BILGES ALONE. WAIT FOR ASSISTANCE
4. LEAK FROM LT SYSTEM

IN THIS CASE STOPPING MAIN ENGINE AND PREPARATION OF


BLACKOUT IS ESSENTIAL AS THERE WILL BE NO COOLING WHEN PUMPS
START TO SUCK AIR. AMOUNT OF WATER IN LT SYSTEM IS NOT ENOUGH
TO FILL ENGINE BILGES ENTIRELY. DO NOT WASTE TIME WITH BILGE
TRANFER, IF LEAK CAN BE ISOLATED BY CLOSING ANY VALVE ( PIPING
FOR INTERMEDIATE SHAFT BEARING ETC) DO IT. OTHERWISE PREPARE
FOR BLACKOUT.
5. LEAK FROM SW SYSTEM

TRY TO IDENTIFT LOCATION OF INGRESS. EXCEPT FWG EJECTOR PUMP


ALL OTHER PUMPS ARE CONNECTED TO MAIN SEA SUCTION LINE. STOP
EJECTOR PUMP AND CLOSE PUMP SUCTION VALVE FROM SEA CHEST.
STOP MAIN CSW PUMPS AND CLOSE BOTH SEA CHEST VALVES. THIS
WILL STOP THE WATER INGRESS INTO ENGINE ROOM. AS SHIP HAS LT
SYSTEM, AND WHEN M/E IS STOPPED, LT SYSTEM CAN HANDLE AUX
ENGINES WITHOUT COOLING FOR ABOUT 10 TO 20 MINUTES WHICH WILL
HELP TO IDENTIFY AND ISOLATE LEAK.

MAIN SW SUCTION PIPE HAS AN ISOLATING VALVE WHICH SEPARATES


CSW PUMP FROM FIRE & BILGE PUMP , REGARDING THE SIDE OF LEAK,
VIA CLOSING ISOLATING VALVE, COOLING SYSTEM CAN BE FED EITHER
VIA CSW PUMP OF FIRE AND BILGE PUMP
IF ANY REPAIR REQUIRED FOR RESTORING THE SYSTEM, PREPARE
SYSTEMS FOR BLACKOUT
DISCOVERING
A FIRE IN E/R
FOLLOW PROCEDURES IN CASE YOU DISCOVER A FIRE OR
POTENTIAL FIRE RISK IN E/R

1. ACTIVATE FIRE ALARM, INFORM BRIDGE OR DUTY OFFICER AND CHF ENGINEER
ABOUT EXACT LOCATION AND NATURE OF FIRE (GARBAGE BINS, ELECTRIC,
RAGS ETC)

2. IF JUST A LOCAL FIRE LIKE GARBAGE BINS, RAGS IN CANS ETC TRY TO
EXTINGUISH WITH A PORTABLE EXTINGUISHER. IF SPREADED ALREADY LEAVE
THE AREA AND FOLLOW FIRE ALARM INSTRUCTIONS

3. IF SMOKE OR FIRE COMING FROM ANY ELECTRICAL STARTER BOX,


SWITCHBOARD OR ANY ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT, ISOLATE BOX OR
SWITCHBOARD FROM MAIN POWER SUPPLY, IF NECESSARY INDUCE A BLACKOUT
VIA STOPPING DIESEL GENERATORS IN CASE MAIN SWITCHBOARD IS EFFECTED.
DO NOT USE ANY WATER BASED EXTINGUISHER ON ANY ELECTRICAL
EQUIPMENT. SOME EQUIPMENTS SUPPLIED FROM BOTH MAIN AND EMG
SWITCHBOARDS AND THERE MAY BE STILL POWER, STOPPING OF EMG
GENERATOR MAY BE REQUIRED

4. IN ANY DOUBT JUST LEAVE THE AREA AND FOLLOW FIRE ALARM
INSTRUCTIONS, CLOSE ALL DOORS ON YOUR WAY OUT
