Theorem 1: Angle in a semi-circle
• Semicircle angle – An angle at the circumference subtended by a diameter is a right
angle.

Theorem 3 : Angle Made from the radius with a Tangent
• Tangents & Radius – a tangent drawn to a circle is perpendicular to the radius at the
point of contact.
Example 1

Theorem 5 : Alternate Segment
• Alternate segment – The angle between the tangent and a chord is equal to the angle in
the alternate segment.
Situations involving this rule may not always look quite like the diagram above. See the
diagrams below for other examples.

Chords of Circles
Theorem 7
Chords of equal length in a circle subtend equal angles at the centre and are
equidistant from the centre
Theorem 8
The perpendicular from the centre of a circle to a chord bisects the chord
Theorem 9
The line from the centre of a circle to the midpoint of a chord is perpendicular to the
chord

Theorem 10
The perpendicular bisector of a chord of a circle passes through the centre of the
circle
Example 1
(b) OU and OV are the perpendicular lines drawn from O to MP and from O to XY
respectively.
Prove that OU = OV
