ADHERE Research Goals

The ADHERE platform was created to collect demographic, surgical outcome, complications, quality of life
and patient-reported outcomes undergoing treatment with UAS in the United States and Europe.

Ideas
● Closed (predefined categories) Card sort?

Session 1
MentorMate will conduct 1-hour semi-structured interviews with clinicians, staff, and ___.

The goals of the interviews are (1) to collect qualitative, open-ended data; (2) to explore participant
thoughts, feelings, and beliefs about ADHERE and related processes; and (3) to delve deeply into personal
issues related to ADHERE and related processes.

Goals:

Session 2
MentorMate will conduct 1-hour user research sessions with clinicians. The sessions will be split into two
parts; a semi-structured interview and competitive testing.

Semi-structured interview:

For the first part of the research session, MentorMate will conduct semi-structured interviews with
clinicians, staff, and ___. The goals of the interviews are (1) to collect qualitative, open-ended data; (2) to
explore participant thoughts, feelings, and beliefs about ADHERE and related processes; and (3) to delve
deeply into personal issues related to ADHERE and related processes.

Future: Competitive testing:

For the second part of the research session, MentorMate will conduct competitive testing of multiple
design concepts using a within-subject approach. This means that each research participant will see each
design concept. This approach will (1) elicit insights for features, flows, and functions at a granular level;
and (2) will provide a list of pros and cons for each design concept. The resulting insights will assist
Inspire stakeholders in choosing the design most desired by users. In order to reduce order bias, which is
associated with this approach, half of the research participants will first see concept A then concept B,
and the other half of research participants will see them in the reverse order.

Goals (subject to change after session 1):

● Gain an understanding of how the 6 initial visits get completed in the system.
○ Who? (i.e. a clinician themselves, a staff member, etc.)
○ When? (i.e. during the visit, retrospectively after, etc.)
● Gain an understanding of the existing (offline/paper) processes and workflows involved in
gathering patient data for ADHERE.
○ Walkthrough paper process?
○ Who does it?
○ When?
○ Does it align with the 6 initial visits?+
○ Are they referencing other systems when completing it?
■ Device serial number

■ Implanting physician
■ Duration of hospital stay
■ etc…
● Gain an understanding of the pain points clinicians/staff experience through the existing
(offline/paper) processes and workflows for gathering patient data for ADHERE.
○ How much time does it take?
○ How difficult is it to gather the information?
○ How many different data sources are there?
● Test the hypothesis that ADHERE-related patient data collection should be—
○ combined with the 6 initial visits in the timeline tab
○ integrated into the timeline tab but separate from the 6 initial visits
○ on a separate tab than the timeline
○ add another hypothesis
● Gain an understanding of exporting needs.
○ Which specific formats? Data structure?
○ For what purposes?
● Process questions—
○ When/how is informed consent signed by the patient?
○ When/how is demographic and medical history information gathered?
● Gain an understanding of how clinicians would review the ADHERE data after it has been
entered into the system.
○ Blood pressure
○ AHI
○ ODI
○ BMI
○ Etc
● Understand where the clinician portal system can influence processes and workflows in the
future (i.e. in order to pre-populate ESS, a clinician or staff user would need to schedule the
ESS survey for the patient to complete)
● Understand how patient answered questions are gathered (paper form, discussion with nurse
or clinician, etc)?
○ Recent Comorbid Conditions
○ ESS
○ Insomnia Severity Index
● Understand what information is needed to make a selection on the Clinical Global Impression -
Improvement (CGI-I) Scale.
○ What is the criteria to make this determination?
○ Is everyone using the same criteria?

Questions (for separate user groups)

● Separate question sets for:

○ Clinicians - entering information
○ Staff - entering information
○ Unknown - consuming information
