Having a ‘cuppa’ with a family member or a friend is a common occurrence across the households of
Australia. However, most people probably do not consider the combination of substances that go
into making a simple cup of tea.
1 This is a list of substances that make up a typical cup of tea: tea bag, milk, water, sugar, and a cup.

River Water is not a pure substance as it is a mixture of various substances dissolved. Some
Components include dissolved minerals, organic matter, suspended solids, microorganisms, and
pollutants.

Think about a beach you have visited. What types of materials are deposited on the beach?

Some materials that might be at the beach are Sodium, Chloride, seaweed, sand and as well as
shells.
