Greetings Good morning, Class! Good morning, Sir!

May I request Lisa to lead the opening Classmate let us bow our heads and feel the
prayer? presence of the lord. In the name of the
Prayer father, and of the son, and of the holy spirit,
Amen.

Checking of Attendance Are there any absentees? None, Sir!
Checking of Assignments Do we have an assignment? None, Sir!
ELICIT What do you feel when you go to a beach “It feels like our skin is burning”
on a hot sunny day?

What do you think causes that burning

sensation? “The heat from the sun, Sir”.

Correct! Excellent observation.

Suppose I have a plastic spoon and a metal

spoon and I dipped it into a hot glass of “The metal spoon will get hotter than the
water. Which do you think will be hotter, plastic spoon. This is because metal is a good
the metal or the plastic spoon? conductor of heat, while plastic is a good
insulator”.
Very good! Now, I know that you have a
prior knowledge of what will be our lesson I guess, we’re tackling the types of heat
for today. Do you have any hint regarding transfer namely, radiation, conduction, and
our lesson? convection.

Good guess, Lets confirm.

Presentation of Class, kindly read the objectives. Objectives:
Objectives: (I will post the objectives in front of the At the end of the 60 minute session, 85% of
class) the students should be able to:
A. Explain how heat transfer occurs.
B. Differentiate conduction, convection,
and radiation.
C. Cite the importance of heat transfer
to our daily lives.
ENGAGE Let us play a game. You will be divided into (The class proceeds with their groupings and
three groups, count 1 to 3 starting from the occupy the designated spaces)
left to right. 1st group will occupy the left
side of the room, Group 2 will be on the
right and the last group will occupy the
middle. Proceed with your groupmates and
occupy your assigned spaces.

Now that you are already intact. I have

prepared a game called Jeopardy. In this
game, you will have to select a card which
your group will answer in the span of 15
seconds. The 5 cards contain 2 difficult
questions which has a total of 6 points, 1
intermediate question totaling to 2 points,
and 2 easy questions which has a total of 2
points. I will flash the back of the card and
you have to say “Three” if you want to
answer the difficult first and so on. The

points.

Do you have any clarifications regarding the “None, Sir”

instructions?

Are you now ready to commence? “Yes, we are”

JEOPARDY

DIFFICULT (3 points each) (Each group will answer the set of cards)
1. The chef started sweating after
standing near the grill.
2. Covering your body with a heated
blanket when you’re feeling cold.
INTERMEDIATE (2 points)
1. Energy that flows due to
temperature difference.
EASY (2 points)
1. True or False: Convection is most
responsible for the uneven heating of
the Earth’s surface.
2. True or False: Atoms or molecules
that make up matter are constantly in
motion and all matter has heat energy.

Very good!
EXPLORE Let us have an activity.

All at Once
Heat Transfer is evident everywhere around
us. Look at the illustration below. The
illustration depicts several situations that (Students will perform the Activity)
involve heat transfer. Your task is to

identify examples of situations found in the

illustration that involve the different
methods of heat transfer.

1. Encircle three situations in the

drawing that involve any method of
heat transfer. Label them 1,2, and 3
2. Note that in your chosen
situations, there could be more than
one heat transfer taking place at the
same time. Make your choices more
specific by filling up the table

EXPLAIN May I request one from each the three “We have observed from the image is the
groups earlier to have their representative kettle emitting vapor due to its exposure
to share their findings in front. from the fire. The kettle receives heat as it is
in direct contact with the heat source or it is
under the method of conduction. The heat
travels through the kettle causing the water
inside to boil and that boiling is causing the
warm air to rise and the cold air to sink
leading to the process of convection”.

That is right. Next group please. It is evident from the picture that the Sun is
shining towards the room which obviously
means that radiation is taking place which is
the heat transfer through electromagnetic
through space. The sun gives off heat and
the objects including walls and appliances
receives heat.

Very Good observation. Let’s hear from the Heat transfer is the movement of heat from
last group. one object to another. In an oven, heat is
transferred through a process called
convection. Convection is the transfer of heat
through the movement of fluids. In an oven,
the air inside the oven is heated by the
heating element at the bottom of the oven.
The hot air rises and moves around the oven,
transferring heat to the food. This is why it is
important to preheat the oven before
cooking, so that the air inside the oven is hot
and ready to transfer heat to the food.

Excellent observation as well. I already

know that you already know the different
methods of heat transfer. I will just
something about Heat conductivities.

Thermal conductivity is a measure of a

material’s ability to conduct heat. Heat
transfer occurs at a lower rate in materials
of low thermal conductivity than in
materials of high thermal conductivity. For
instance, metals typically have high thermal
conductivity and are very efficient at
conducting heat, while the opposite is true
for insulating materials like mineral wool or
Styrofoam.

Thermal conductivity is a measure of how

well a material can conduct heat. It’s like
how well a basketball player can pass the
ball to their teammates. Some materials,
like metals, are really good at conducting
heat, so they can pass the heat along really
quickly. Other materials, like Styrofoam, are
not very good at conducting heat, so they
can’t pass the heat along very quickly.

Thermal conductivity affects the methods of

heat transfer in the following ways:

Conduction: Conduction is the transfer of

heat through a material. Materials with high
thermal conductivity, such as metals, are
good conductors of heat and transfer heat
quickly. Materials with low thermal
conductivity, such as Styrofoam, are poor
conductors of heat and transfer heat
slowly.

Convection: Convection is the transfer of

heat through the movement of fluids
(liquids or gases). The rate of heat transfer
through convection depends on the thermal
conductivity of the fluid. Fluids with high
thermal conductivity transfer heat more
efficiently than fluids with low thermal
conductivity.

Radiation: Radiation is the transfer of heat

through electromagnetic waves. The rate of
heat transfer through radiation depends on
the temperature difference between the
two objects and the surface area of the
objects. Materials with high thermal
conductivity can help to increase the rate of
heat transfer through radiation by
increasing the surface area of the object

ELLABORATION Since you already know how heat transfer “Heat transfer is an essential part of our daily

conductivity of materials affect the heat heat transfer that everyone is familiar with,
transfer. Can you cite an importance of although maybe not understand its use, is
heat transfer to our daily lives. sweating. The human body regulates its heat
through the largest organ of our body – our
skin. In most cases, sweating is not required
but when our body works out more and we
start to sweat, the body applies the laws of
physics very naturally. The evaporation of
our sweat consumes energy (latent heat)
which our body wants to get rid of in form of
heat. This process helps our body to stay

“Heat transfer is also used to make things

Indeed. Any other answers? metal to build cars. Heat is used to generate
electricity at a thermal power plant for our
daily lives. Temperature is the measure of
how hot or cold matter is.

Correct. Any other answer before we

proceed with the quiz? Heat transfer is also important in many
engineering disciplines – from brake cooling
in cars, to gearbox or bearing cooling in wind
power plants, cooling of electronics in
smartwatches, mobile phones, as well as
computers on our desks, on planes, trains
and other means of transportation.

Great, I think you are now well equipped to
